The NorthCap University Vice Chancellor’s Address on 72nd Republic Day

My dear students, faculty, and staff, today as we celebrate the 72nd Republic Day, our heart is filled with pride and gratitude. We celebrate this day every year, remembering the significant historic moment when our constitution came into force. Thus, the day has saccharine importance for our country. We express our heartfelt gratitude to all the members of the constituent assembly who undertook the colossal task of drafting a statute which has been the guiding source for government bodies since 1950.

The year gone by has been extremely challenging for the entire world. The coronavirus pandemic brought with it uncertainties that affected almost the whole world alike. It was not easy, but India stood strong and emerged as a paradigm for the entire world and managed the pandemic significantly better than most of the developed countries on the sphere. The COVID warriors namely committed doctors, nursing staffs, police officers, cleaning personnel, social volunteers and many more have played a substantial role in managing the pandemic effectively.

The spirit of India’s scientific and research communities remained unaffected in the pandemic. Our teams of committed scientists toiled hard throughout the year and rolled out our two coronavirus vaccines- Covishield and Covaxin. The honourable Prime Minister launched world’s largest vaccination drive on 16 January 2020, that shall help not just our nation fight the disease but also benefit many other countries.

Several welfare campaigns launched by the government like Aatmairbhar Bharat, Digital India, Skill India Mission, Make in India, Swachh Bharat Mission and many more achieved astounding success in terms of gaining popularity and reaping benefits for the citizens in spite of the existing unprecedented circumstances. There have been consistent efforts by the government to ensure the overall development of the country. We must all join hands with the government, and as responsible citizens contribute to the various projects of nation-building and complement these initiatives with our own little efforts.

The year 2020 has been quite revolutionary for the Indian Education System as well. The launch of National Education Policy 2020 has overhauled and modified the entire education structure. This has laid the groundwork of a new and developed era for higher education in India. The focus on the holistic development of students is the fundamental principle of NEP, followed by multidisciplinary and multilingual education. The NorthCap University is keenly and actively engaged in integrating the essence of the new policy in our education system. We have initiated the up-gradation of our curriculum as per the NEP after profound consideration and scrutiny. We strongly believe that effective implementation of the policy shall steadily contribute towards the universal growth of all learners.

I take pride in stating that, we at The NorthCap University have unfailingly marched our way in consonance with the nation and have never let any hindrance block our path. We staunchly managed all the adversities thrown at us by Coronavirus and succeeded in our motive of imparting effective education to our students. We actively participated in mitigating the spread of the deadly virus by introducing instantaneous measures like disinfecting the campus regularly, promoting hygiene and encouraging social distancing. I take this opportunity to congratulate all the teaching and non-teaching staff for agile conduction of online teaching and evaluation process. The herculean task of transition from the traditional model of classroom teaching to the novel online teaching was accomplished through rigorous training sessions for all the stakeholders. The University takes pride in laying a robust foundation to provide eminent facilities to its students targeting unimpeded education and employment for them.

This year, we at NCU shall be celebrating twenty-five years of providing excellence and quality education. These twenty-five glorious years gone by are a witness to the hard work, commitment, and unfaltering dedication of all our staff members. I congratulate the NCU family on this momentous feat. Together, we make a team dedicated to providing the best to our students.

The renowned author W.B Yeats said, “Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” An efficient educator not only enlightens one’s minds; rather he lightens souls. We at NCU, aim to instil the core values of integrity, compassion, humility, passion, and perseverance. The NCU family is whole-heartedly dedicated towards the holistic development of students offering a flexible, optimal, complementary and skill-oriented course curriculum. Last year we successfully introduced new programs and specialisations to enhance student alacrity for better employment value and career progression. A Project Committee has also been constituted under the Vice-Chancellor's chairmanship to ensure that the students get to experience a learning environment that ensures their all-round development.

NCU believes that most of the learning happens outside the four walls of the classrooms and so, we focus on all-inclusive development of students by motivating them to partake in national and international level workshops, programmes, and competitions. Our students have done us proud by achieving recognition for their various endeavours, both locally and globally. The Student Activities and Leadership (SAL) committee kept the students constructively engaged by organising around 150 activities in the previous year. The University also introduced compulsory Community Service with additional credits in all programs offered.

With a vision of quality and innovative teaching, I urge my fellow faculty members to educate our students and make them ideal citizens of the nation, equipped with sound technological and scientific knowledge. I expect all the teachers to become facilitators and help our students think analytically and innovatively and make them competent and cogent visionaries.

A nation with rational and determined youngsters can triumph over any struggle. There is always a demand for virtuous and conscious individuals for the upliftment and furtherance of a nation and each one of us has the capability to be ready to face new challenges every day. I appeal to all my students to aim at building a compassionate, accountable, and didactic character and set examples for the younger generations. Every building needs resilient foundations to rest on, and so does the nation. I expect that all my students would stand as strong pillars assisting the advancement and development of India. Today, on this auspicious day, I invite you all to join me in the pledge of contributing your best in building a stronger, more self-contained, and progressive India. All of us can be the harbingers of change we want to see around us, all that we need to do is to take a step in the right direction. As Shri B R Ambedkar said- ‘A great man is different from an eminent one in that he is ready to be the servant of the society.’

With these words, I invite you all to join me and say ‘Jai Hind’ 3 times.

Jai Hind… Jai Hind…Jai Hind…
