The B.Des in Communication Design at The NorthCap University with knowledge partner Seamedu is a comprehensive, future-oriented undergraduate programme that prepares students to become skilled visual communicators and user experience designers for today’s media, digital, and interactive industries. The programme offers students the choice to specialise in Visual Communication or UI/UX Design, allowing them to align their learning with their creative strengths and career goals.
Rooted in strong design fundamentals such as drawing, visualization, typography, semiotics, visual hierarchy, and communication theory, the curriculum integrates storytelling, media production, branding, and user-centric design. Through a studio-driven, hands-on learning approach, students develop the ability to create meaningful visual narratives and intuitive digital experiences across print, digital, mobile, web, and interactive platforms.
With progressive exposure to photography, video production, motion graphics, branding, UI/UX systems, research, analytics, and digital tools, students graduate with industry-ready portfolios, real-world project experience, and the confidence to solve complex communication and design problems. Backed by state-of-the-art infrastructure, 50+ industry partners, and a strong placement record with 95% secured employment, Seamedu stands as a leading institute for Communication Design education in India.
Focuses on storytelling, branding, photography, video production, motion graphics, print and digital media.
Focuses on user research, interaction design, digital products, gaming interfaces, usability testing, and responsive systems.
The B.Des Communication Design programme follows a Common Core + Specialisation Track structure.
All students undergo a shared foundation in design during the first year, after which they choose a specialisation in UI/UX Design or Visual Communication from Semester 3 onwards.
The programme is organised into six semesters, advancing from fundamental concepts to specialised training and projects oriented toward industry applications.
Students begin their journey by developing a strong foundation in design thinking, visual language, and communication principles. Through drawing, visualization, material exploration, and studio-based learning, they understand form, composition, typography, and visual hierarchy. Courses in photography, communication theory, and the history of UI/UX—especially in the Indian context—help students recognize how design influences user behaviour, culture, and digital experiences.
As students progress, they are introduced to essential UI and UX concepts such as interface design fundamentals, semiotics, typography, and user-centric design approaches. They learn UX research methods, user journey mapping, interaction design, and microinteractions while working with digital tools and motion UI principles. Studio projects focus on translating research insights into intuitive, visually engaging digital interfaces.
At this stage, students work on complex digital systems and product design workflows. Learning includes grid systems, responsive design, branding for digital platforms, UX analytics, A/B testing, UX writing, and content strategy. Specialized modules expose students to mobile app design, web interface systems, gaming UI, and interactive experiences using industry-standard tools such as Figma.
In the final phase, students focus on real-world application and career readiness. They conduct usability testing, refine designs through feedback loops, and work on advanced studio projects. The programme culminates in a capstone project involving a complete UX prototype, testing, and professional portfolio development, supported by an industry internship that prepares students for careers in UI/UX, product design, and interaction design.
Students build a strong foundation in visual communication through drawing, design studios, and material exploration. Courses in photography, communication theory, design history, and Indian visual culture help develop visual sensitivity, conceptual thinking, and an understanding of how images communicate meaning across cultures and media.
The curriculum advances into media technologies, typography, semiotics, and visual storytelling. Students gain hands-on experience in video production, print design, photography genres, and cinematography concepts. Studio projects emphasize narrative building, concept development, and effective visual communication across print and screen-based media.
Students explore advertising design, branding and identity design, digital image processing, lighting techniques, video editing, motion graphics, podcast production, and documentary filmmaking. This phase strengthens technical proficiency while encouraging creative problem-solving and professional execution across visual and digital platforms.
In the final year, students work on advanced post-production techniques, commercial photography, UI/UX integration, and short film production. The programme concludes with a capstone project, portfolio development, and an industry internship, enabling students to showcase their creative identity and transition confidently into professional roles in media, design, and visual communication.
