Internal Complaint Committee

Institution

The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all its students, faculty, staff, and visitors. As a coeducational institution, NCU promotes equality, dignity, and mutual respect, and maintains a Zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment in any form.

Despite fostering a congenial and professional atmosphere, the University acknowledges the need for vigilance and responsive mechanisms to address any unwelcome behaviour of a sexual nature. The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) at NCU is established to sensitise the University community and ensure the prevention, prohibition, and redressal of sexual harassment in accordance with existing laws.

Why ICC?

The ICC has been constituted as per the mandate of:

  • The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act).
  • University Grants Commission (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015

These legislations necessitate the formation of an Internal Complaints Committee at all workplaces and educational institutions to address and redress complaints related to sexual harassment.

What is ICC?

The ICC at NCU is a statutory body entrusted with the responsibility of addressing grievances and complaints of sexual harassment from students, faculty, staff, or any woman associated with the University. The ICC functions impartially and ensures confidentiality, dignity, and timely redressal of all complaints.

Functions of the ICC:

  • To prevent any form of sexual harassment at the workplace and within the campus.
  • To create awareness and promote gender sensitivity among all stakeholders.
  • To investigate complaints of sexual harassment in a fair and unbiased manner.
  • To recommend appropriate action in cases of proven misconduct, in line with University rules and the POSH Act.
  • To organise sensitization and training programs, workshops, and seminars on gender equality, women empowerment, and legal rights.
  • To ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all women at NCU.

Who Can Approach the ICC?

Any aggrieved woman who has experienced sexual harassment in the context of her association with NCU can approach the ICC. This includes:

  • Female students
  • Women employees (teaching and non-teaching staff)
  • Visitors or interns associated with the University
  • Research scholars

In circumstances where the aggrieved woman is unable to file a complaint due to physical or mental incapacity or death, a friend, relative, colleague, co-student may file the complaint on her behalf.

Scope of Sexual Harassment:

  • Unwelcome physical contact and advances
