Spark Talks – Nothing Can stop a Great Idea

Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering and IEEE-NCU Society  organized a one day Seminar in collaboration with Spark Talks on 3rd November 2018 on  motivating and inspiring  theme  “Nothing Can stop a Great Idea” in Auditorium, The NorthCap University, Gurugram.  Spark Talks is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world,  believe  in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world with a motto “Unleash the Spark in You”. The speakers of the event provided an insight to audience that finding your true power in this modern day era, is most important of all. The students and professionals from different colleges and backgrounds attended the event.

The speakers shared their experiences, opinions and success stories with the audience.  Ms. Richa  Maheswari  shared her life story and journey of remarkable success,  which was especially  motivating for  all the woman present.

Mr. Guilherme Petrin  talk was related to the development and explanation of the App  12minutes, which is indeed a powerful and inspiring tool for self development. The app 12 min. provides the microbooks in the form of summarized ideas and concepts in various non- fiction domains in four languages.

Mr. Akash Gupta delivered an excellent and inspiring talk  about  Mobcy,  his  environment friendly, last mile commuting solution to the society in the form of Mobycy. The talk  provided the encouragement and the insight to the audience  that nothing can stop a great idea.

The ceremony ended with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. Naresh Kumari, Assistant Professor-EECE, IEEE-NCU Branch Counsellor. The event was coordinated by students Mr. Virendra Pratap Singh, Ms.Ritika Sharma, Mr. Yashdeep and  team under the guidance of  Ms. Naresh Kumari and  Dr. Sharda Vashisth, HOD-EECE.

Industry Visit to DNA Automation

Dr Nitin Malik, EECE and Dr. Jyotsna, CSE got an opportunity to visit Industry (DNA Automation) in Faridabad from 30-31st may 2018 and learn hands-on on the latest in the field of Automation. They got to work upon relays, circuit breakers and industrial-scale PLC and SCADA (Supervisory Control and data requisition systems).The official from the DNA automation also took them to other ancillary organizations within the Faridabad city which manufactures electrical panels. They have a close look at how the electrical switchgear equipment’s are manufactured and assembled into the panels according to predesign.

SPIE organizes Quiz on Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning

A Quiz on Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning was organized by NCU’s SPIE Student Chapter on 4 Oct 2018. Almost 40 students participated in the quiz competition. It helped students to enhance their skills for placements. Yazur Garg (BSc) bagged the 1st Position and  Aitereya Shreyas Jha (BSc) bagged the 2nd Position. They were awarded prizes and certificates and Certificates of Participation were distributed to all the participants. The event was coordinated by Gungun Saini and Akhil Arora, SPIE Student Members, ECE; Ms Amanpreet Kaur, SPIE Advisor and Mr Pankaj Rakheja, Faculty Coordinator, SPIE.

Workshop on ‘Group Discussions’

A workshop was conducted on the topic ‘Group Discussions’ for the students of B.Tech ECE 5th and 7th semester students on 27 September 2018. The trainer for the workshop was Ms. Shikha Malhotra, a Certified Image Consultant (Conselle Institute of Image Management, USA), Soft Skills Facilitator and Trainer (Scottish Qualifications Authority) and Certified Train the Trainer-TTT (National Accreditation Board for Education & Training). The trainer covered minute details of Group Discussions, its importance, how it starts with and introduction by the facilitator, to the end till the summarisation. The important and useful tips, do’s and don’ts, the way to prepare for GDs, importance of current affairs’ knowledge etc. were covered. It was an interactive 2 hrs presentation and discussion session. This was followed by two mock GDs in groups of 7 students each. Students participated enthusiastically and participants as well as audience were benefitted by review comments from the trainer. Overall, students were very happy with the workshop and wanted such sessions to be organized in future as well. The workshop was organized by Dr. Vandana Khanna and Dr. Rekha Vig from EECE department.

Workshop on Arduino Projects

Department of EECE has organized a ‘Workshop on Arduino Projects’ & Career Counselling Session for schools students on September 24, 2018 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It involved project hands-on base on arduino,project demonstrations followed by interaction of students and campus tour. Total 3 schools in and around Gurugram participated for the workshop :Drona Public School , Euro International School and Rotary Public School.This was an excellent opportunity for school students to see the pace of live projects. Students found the workshop fantastic – very informative and well managed.This workshop has been coordinated by Mr.Pankaj Rakheja ,Ms.Amanpreet Kaur along with the entire department under the guidance of Dr.Sharda.

4G and 5G through ICT

17th September 2018 to 21st September 2018  

Organized by: NITTTR, Chandigarh at the EECE Department of THE NORTHCAP University (Nodal Centre).

NITTTR, Chandigarh has been offering faculty training programmes in a wide variety of areas to train teachers with the view to propagate ICT skills among them through Induction Training Programmes in order to improve quality of technical education.

The STC on “4G and 5G through ICT ” has been scheduled from 17th September 2018 to 21st September 2018  which would be organized by NITTTR, Chandigarh at the EECE Department ,THE NORTHCAP University (Nodal Centre).

Course Contents:  The focus of this course is Advanced concept, architecture and research areas of new communication techniques.

  • Evolution of standard from 2G to 5G
  • SC-FDMA, OFDMA Concepts – 4G Uplink and Downlink
  • 4G Architecture, LTE advanced concept, use of MIMO in 4G and 5G
  • Fractional Frequency Reuse
  • VoLTE, 5G technical Concepts and fundamentals
  • 5G expected Architecture,
  • Application of 5G, research areas of 4G and 5G

The Course was conducted successfully and this course helps us to understand the latest and advanced trends in communication  .The course includes 4G and 5G architecture, LTE Concepts and the various research areas and the upcoming technological trends which will be  used in mobile communication . Course was attended by faculty of EECE & APS, research scholars and Technical Staff as well . Course is thoughtful and informative which can enhance our skills for teaching .

Alumni meet – Departments of CSE&IT and EECE

Departments of CSE&IT and EECE organize an Alumni Meet on 1 Sept 2018 in which 70 alumni graced the occasion. The event was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and Alumnni Mr Adish and Mr Archit (Class of 2000). Vice-Chancellor, Prof. HB Raghavendra motivated the alumni to stay connected with the University to build a stronger campus to corporate connection.

Anisha, BTech, 3rd Year gave a scintillating Odissi dance performance. An audio-visual game was organized in which all alumni participated with zeal and enthusiasm. Ms Jyotika Pruthi, Assistant Professor, Dept of CSE and Ms Amanpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Dept of EECE gave a presentation on the achievements of their respective departments focusing on some projects developed by students for the betterment of the society. The alumni shared their experiences in and after NCU. The event concluded on a happy note with the giving of mementos to our alumni by Prof. HB Raghavendra and vote of thanks by Dr Rita Chhikara which was followed by a group photograph and lunch.  The event was coordinated by the Alumni Team comprising of Dr Rita Chhikara, Dr Yogita Gigras, Ms Garima Sharma and Mr Vijay Budakoti,   Dept of CSE, Ms Amanpreet Kaur, Dept of EECE and Mr Shakeel, SPA.

How to convert an Idea into Patent

The Dept of EECE organized an expert lecture on ‘How to convert an Idea into Patent’ by Prof BK Sarkar, Project Director, TCS-G Software Pvt Ltd Pune, for all members of the faculty on 14 Aug 2018. The expert himself has 59 patents till date and has sold five patents for 1.40 Cr He enlightened the faculty members about the process of writing and filing of patents and further processes required to publish, sale and develop a patent. It was an interactive session where  faculty and research scholars from all the Schools actively participated and clarified their doubts. The lecture was coordinated by Dr Sharda Vashishtha and Ms Kusum Grewal Dangi.

Special session on ‘Ace your Interview’

The Dept of EECE organized a special session on ‘Ace your Interview’ for students of BTech, ECE, Final-year by Ms Shikha Malhotra, Certified Image Consultant on 8 August 2018. It was a rigorous 2.5 hour session on innovative and unique techniques of facing interviews including proper communication, showcasing strengths and identifying weaknesses. Live session on body language and mock interviews were conducted by Ms Shikha.  Students found the session beneficial, especially with the placement season starting soon. The guest lecture was coordinated by Dr Rekha Vig, Associate Professor.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup, 2018

 

Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd. has organized Mitsubishi Electric Cup-2018, the National level competition for factory automation skill for engineering students, in association with Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Our The NorthCap University is being represented by a team of four students (Team Adroit), under the guidance of Dr. Anjali Garg, in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2018 competition. Team Adroit has developed a Smart Drainage Management System (SDMS), which aims to prevent water clogging. The team has cleared the first round and has been shortlisted amongst the top 35 teams out of 150+ teams from all over India. The final competition was held on 15th-17th February, 2018, in Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was a great experience to learn many things during this event, especially the real time experience in presenting a big hardware live project to a team of experts from all over India. Everyone appreciated a lot and suggested to move forward and approach government for the commercialization of this project as this project has good relevance to social need and health. Participation in this competition also enhances the visibility of the University and practical exposure to the participants. Special thanks to NCU authorities for supporting the team to represent NCU and participate in this event.
