one day International Conference

The School of law organised one day International Conference on the theme “Interface between Technology and Law: Moving toward Digital India” held on November 05, 2018. The conference was inaugurated by Jozef Drofenik, Ambassador and Plenipotentiary, Republic of Slovenia accompanied by First Lady Dr. Ala Adamia from Romania. His Excellency spoke on impact of technology on law by giving brief acumen of law employing new technologies to pursue goals which were pursued by other technologies in the past like in case of e-document, the e-signature, the payment of obligations through e-money and discussed their position in other European nations.

The keynote address of the event was given by Prof. Nuzhat Praveen Khan, Head and Dean, Faculty of law, Jamia Milia Islamia. She highlighted on the issues related to technological advancements of society which have given intensification alarms in relation to integrity and security of cyber space, social networking sites, information, trust and privacy, Consumer Protection, taxation issues, jurisdictional questions, and intellectual property rights issues and electronic transactions, etc. The inaugural session was followed by three technical session under different themes. The 69 delegates across the country including two foreign delegates participated in the event. All the participants received certificates of paper presentation.

Spark Talks – Nothing Can stop a Great Idea

Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering and IEEE-NCU Society  organized a one day Seminar in collaboration with Spark Talks on 3rd November 2018 on  motivating and inspiring  theme  “Nothing Can stop a Great Idea” in Auditorium, The NorthCap University, Gurugram.  Spark Talks is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world,  believe  in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world with a motto “Unleash the Spark in You”. The speakers of the event provided an insight to audience that finding your true power in this modern day era, is most important of all. The students and professionals from different colleges and backgrounds attended the event.

The speakers shared their experiences, opinions and success stories with the audience.  Ms. Richa  Maheswari  shared her life story and journey of remarkable success,  which was especially  motivating for  all the woman present.

Mr. Guilherme Petrin  talk was related to the development and explanation of the App  12minutes, which is indeed a powerful and inspiring tool for self development. The app 12 min. provides the microbooks in the form of summarized ideas and concepts in various non- fiction domains in four languages.

Mr. Akash Gupta delivered an excellent and inspiring talk  about  Mobcy,  his  environment friendly, last mile commuting solution to the society in the form of Mobycy. The talk  provided the encouragement and the insight to the audience  that nothing can stop a great idea.

The ceremony ended with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. Naresh Kumari, Assistant Professor-EECE, IEEE-NCU Branch Counsellor. The event was coordinated by students Mr. Virendra Pratap Singh, Ms.Ritika Sharma, Mr. Yashdeep and  team under the guidance of  Ms. Naresh Kumari and  Dr. Sharda Vashisth, HOD-EECE.

The NorthCap University signs Partnership Agreement with Providence University, Taiwan

The NorthCap University (NCU), Gurugram, signed Partnership Agreement with Providence University, Taiwan on 23 October 2018. Both universities have agreed to undertake joint research activities and publications, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of academic materials, other information and special short-term academic programmes.

The Agreement was signed by Prof. Chuan Yi Tang, President, Providence University, Taiwan and Vice-Chancellor Prof. H B Raghavendra which shall remain in force for an indefinite period of time from 23 October 2018. This partnership provides NCU with extensive research opportunities.

Momentum 2018

The NorthCap University celebrated its Annual Techno-Cultural festival ‘Momentum 2018’ from 24-26 Oct 2018, which saw a plethora of cultural events providing students a platform to showcase their talent. During the inaugural ceremony the audience was treated to music presented by NCU’s Music Society ‘Encore’ and a play titled ‘Saleem-Anarkali’ which gathered a round of applause from everyone. The technical events included Tricky Circuit, Crossword IQ, Code it up, Quiz-o- mania etc. Onstage events like X-Fame judged by Bharat Sharma (X-Factor 9 contestant), Muscle Fit sponsored by Gold’s Gym, fashion shows sponsored by Pantaloons and Magnolia Salon, sports events sponsored by Decathlon and offstage events like gaming, coding competitions etc. There was keen competition to win the coveted titles of Mr Momentum which was eventually won by Shivam and Ms Momentum won by Parul. Students from DU, IP College, Manav Rachna, Amity Manesar etc. also contested various inter-university onstage and sports events. The Electronic Dance Music night by VH1 Supersonic featured by DJ Ray had the attendees grooving to the refreshing music and tunes of the artist. The performance by the renowned Parashar Band and Antriksh Band on the Coke Studio Night gave the touch of Bollywood music. The Star Night of Momentum witnessed the artist ‘GURI’ which set everyone dancing to its scintillating performance. Chief faculty coordinator of Momentum 2018 was Mr Shubham Bansal, Dept of CEE.

NCU participates in Career Conclave at New Delhi

NCU participated in the Career Conclave at Cambridge Foundation School, Rajouri Garden, New Delhi on 13 Oct 2018. A team comprising of Dr Pramod Bhatia, Dept of ME; Dr Rita Chhikara, Dept of CSE⁢ Dr Praveen Lohchab, School of Law; Dr Preeti, School of Management and Mr Akhilesh (technical support)  interacted and provided career counselling to more than 70  students and parents of classes IX to XII. The team met the Principal, Ms Anita Soori, and were assured that a dedicated career counselling session by NCU for class XII students would soon be organized at the school. Some of the students of classes IX and X also showed interest in visiting the University campus to gain more insight on topics like Automobile Engineering, Robotics etc.

Science Exhibition for School Students

To spread the message of the importance of science and its applications among school students, The Department of Applied Sciences, NCU, organized a Science Exhibition on 10 Oct 2018 at the University. About 70 students of classes XI and XII from various schools in Gurugram such as Presidium, DAV Public School, Lions Public School, SDMS and GSS school demonstrated their innovative ideas in the form of science projects, models and posters on topics such as Electrostatic Precipitator, Optimization Traffic Parking, Hoverboard etc. The students were given hands-on experience in the Science & Engineering labs and a workshop was organized on 3D printing, IoT, Advanced Scientific Instruments, Laser Diffraction and LED for the school students.
On this occasion the UG students of the University also displayed a total of 60 exhibits showcasing their scientific skills and creative thinking through self-designed working models and projects, which includes Electromagnetic Train, Electronic voting machine, Smart City, Hologram etc.
Winners of various events were encouraged by awarding prizes and certificates. The event aimed at promoting scientific temperament among students and motivating school children towards taking up science in their higher studies and contributing to the National mission.

IEEE-NCU Society conducts a workshop on C with Linux

IEEE-NCU Society organised a workshop on ‘C WITH LINUX’ which was conducted by Webodeci Technologies, New Delhi, and attended by 80 students of the Depts of CSE & ECE on 4 Oct 2018. The workshop was primarily for beginners who have a hard time understanding how and where they will be using C or C++ in their career as a software engineer. C and C++ programmers are getting paid a high salary as these languages are one of the most powerful programming languages in computer science. We can build different applications which are not possible even with other high level languages. Students learnt some of the modern ways of doing computer programming as per industry requirements and Linux with Virtualization along with intricate concepts such as concept of header files. A study about libraries and how to include one in your programme was also discussed. Computer Vision with MySQL with C programming were briefly introduced and a free demo with computer vision was demonstrated. The workshop focused on real life application. The workshop was conducted by Mr Anuj,  M.Sc in Artifcial Intelligence & Robotics (2015) from University of Hertfordshire, UK. The event was coordinated by students Virendra Pratap Singh, Ritika Sharma, Yashdeep and  faculty members Ms Naresh Kumari, IEEE-NCU Branch Counsellor under the guidance of Dr Sharda Vashisth, Head, Dept of EECE.

Civil Engineering- A challenging career

The Dept of Civil & Environmental Engineering organized a lecture on ‘Civil Engineering – A challenging career’ by Er. P Surya Prakash, an eminent engineer and consultant who has made significant contribution to Civil Engineering in India, for BTech CE students on 12 Oct 2018. He talked about the profession of Civil Engineering where hard work, dedication, ethics and sincerity are very important. He emphasized on students’ attendance and attentiveness in class and motivated students to carry out experiments in the laboratory with deep interest as that is important in turning out professional Civil Engineers. He discussed about the challenges in the Civil Engineering profession and shared various career options available for Civil Engineering graduates. He extended his guidance to the students for internship and project works.

Er. P Surya Prakash has established M/s SatyaVani Projects and Consultants Pvt Ltd and is also the Founder and Mentor of Smart Infr-EST, a trust dedicated to Civil Engineering for enhancing employability.

ASQ NCU Chapter organizes lecture on quality and ‘Industry 4.0’

American Society for Quality (ASQ) NCU Chapter organized an interactive session with Mr Anandiya Sarangi, ASQ Business Development Head on 3 October 2018. Mr Sarangi spoke about quality and how it leads to profit and increase in brand value. He also introduced the concept of ‘Industry 4.0’ and how maintaining quality will be a major part of the endeavour. He explained how quality is relevant in various domains including engineering, law and management and encouraged students to increase their capabilities and be more versatile. Mr Sarangi enumerated numerous ASQ member benefits such as online content consisting of articles, case studies, and tools, member discounts on books and training and free entry to all ASQ conferences nationwide.

SPIE organizes Quiz on Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning

A Quiz on Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning was organized by NCU’s SPIE Student Chapter on 4 Oct 2018. Almost 40 students participated in the quiz competition. It helped students to enhance their skills for placements. Yazur Garg (BSc) bagged the 1st Position and  Aitereya Shreyas Jha (BSc) bagged the 2nd Position. They were awarded prizes and certificates and Certificates of Participation were distributed to all the participants. The event was coordinated by Gungun Saini and Akhil Arora, SPIE Student Members, ECE; Ms Amanpreet Kaur, SPIE Advisor and Mr Pankaj Rakheja, Faculty Coordinator, SPIE.
