The Institution of Engineers (India) is a non-profit organization of engineers in India and was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935. It is currently headquartered in Kolkata. The Royal Charter endowed the Institution with the responsibility to promote the general advancement of engineering amongst members and persons attached to the Institution. IEI has been recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and besides conducting its own research, it provides Grant-in-Aid to UG/PG/ PhD students of Engineering Institutes & Universities.
Students’ chapters of Institution of Engineers (India)-IEI society have been established in the departments of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering under School of Engineering & Technology (SOET). A total of 121 students are currently part of these chapters across all 4 branches of Engineering.
Events conducted under IEI-Civil Students Chapter
1. One Day workshop on “Design of G+4 Building” using Midas Gen.
A hands-on workshop on design of G+4 building was organized under IEI-Chapter of Civil and Environmental Engineering department on 5 February 2019 by Mr Diptendu Roy, Faculty Advisor. The workshop was targeted for BTech 3rd & 4th year students and MTech 1st year scholars. During the workshop the students were given a brief of the product Midas Gen followed by hands on exercise on analysis of simple structures and portal frames. Post lunch, steps followed in analysis of a building as per IS 456, loading conditions as per IS 875-Part 3 (Wind Loads), IS 1893- Part 1(Wind Loads) were discussed and modeled in Midas Gen software. The application of loads namely dead load and live load to the beams and columns, followed by the design of the multi-bay building model was performed. Once the analysis and design were performed, the section details of beams and columns were assessed according to the minimum requirements as per the code. The session was a bridge between the classroom and real life problems faced in analysis of a building.
2. Two days workshop on Staad Pro.
Two days’ workshop on, “Analysis and Design of determinate and indeterminate structures with Staad Pro. V8i” was organized by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering on 31 October and 1 November 2018 in CADD Lab. The workshop was organized in association with IID (Institute of Industrial Design) and CADD Centre. The content of the workshop was in-line with the subjects studied by the students as a part of their curriculum. Wherein students had hands on experience in analysis of beams, frame and trusses subjected to static and moving loads and design of concrete sections. They also had an opportunity to practice more problems which helped them to understand the underlying concepts better.
The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, The NorthCap University, Gurugram is a lifetime organizational member of Indian Concrete Institute, Chennai.
Indian Concrete Institute is one of the leading professional bodies in India, catering to the professional needs of individuals and organizations involved in Concrete. Being a non-profit Organization, it is dedicated to the cause of Disseminating Knowledge on Concrete to Promote Concrete Technology and Construction and to address the Research Needs of Concrete.
The NorthCap University has now become a lifetime organizational member of Indian Concrete Institute, Chennai and has been attached with ICI Delhi Centre (DELC). The University would now get updated on the latest technology & practices in Concrete Industry. The members will have a unique opportunity to listen to and to interact with experts from within the country and abroad. This will let us collaborate with national and international agencies in creating better understanding of concrete construction technology. ICI promotes growth of concrete construction and its sub-specializations giving opportunity to participate in ICI conducted competitions like ICI FEST, which is a zonal meet of Students Chapters. Apart from these, there are various other benefits such as access to ICI Archives which is a collection of valuable Technical Papers, access to ICI reference library and most importantly, an opportunity to grow professionally.
Indian Road Safety Campaign, a voluntary organization running under the umbrella of Transport Research and Injury Prevention Program, IIT Delhi, refers to improve the road safety rules and also make the stakeholders – who are the reason for road accident deaths, aware about safety rules.
IRSC started as a project under National Service Scheme, IIT Delhi and currently have grown to be a youth lead organization with help Transport Research and Injury Prevention Program operating in various national engineering colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, BITS Pilani, DTU, SRCC etc on our board. IRSC has also been associated with schools and various NGOs like Arrive Safe, Safe Road Foundation etc. There are various methodologies like awareness, internships, workshops and competitions through which IRSC has been able to sensitize and impact 5,00,000+ people and work presently in 35+ cities and 7+ states.
IRSC helps in developing Business-Model of the projects and helps in Indian Road Safety Campaign overall development and expansion, in formation of proposals and projects.

SPACE is an endeavor of students and faculty (NCU) to enhance the technical fervor amongst the students and to introduce them to the world of astonishing structures, techniques and designs.
SPACE has been a very active society since past 5 years ever since it has been inaugurated. The founders and the members of the society have worked actively for the development of the society as well as the development of the practical view over the theoretical view of the students of our esteemed university. It’s the duty as well as keen dedication of the members and the faculty to clarify their concepts as well as ignite a new practical and innovative approach amongst the highly potential masterminds of our university. It gives the initiation to the young minds to enhance their knowledge by practically implementing the concepts of their engineering curriculum as well as giving them an insight on team building, team work and project execution, the skills very much required in today’s industry.
SPACE is a kaleidoscope of engineers from different streams like Structures, Geotech, Surveying, Transportation and Environmental Engineering.
A junior or a senior, we welcome all sorts of talents. Also for the welfare of the students all our team members are available with no time boundaries to attend any kind of problem or doubt they may face.
This is an initiative to engrave in students the love for technology and to incline their minds towards the practical based knowledge.
With an aim of bringing new innovations in the field of civil engineering, the team has plans to bring up a large number of events, workshop and seminar to accomplish their aim.
SPACE has organized various events like the SPACE Day , Quizzup, Mould it up, The Great Debate, which are inter and intra University events and continuously motivates and encourages the students the not just participate but also organize the events.
