Journey from ITM to graduate studies and beyond
It all started almost a decade ago in 2008 when I joined Institute of Technology & Management (ITM), Gurgaon for undergraduate study in Electronics & Communication Engineering. The university provided access to highly qualified faculty, state-of art lab facilities and campus. The faculty and staff were always supportive and provided help and guidance concerning not only academics but also extracurricular activities and projects. I would specially like to mention the efforts of Professor Neeraj Kumar Shukla and the VLSI group at ITM for motivating us and imparting essential skills needed to explore the field of hardware design. I got an opportunity to work with STMicroelectronics and Synopsys after I graduated from ITM. Even after I graduated I was in constant touch with VLSI group and other faculty members. Professor Neeraj Shukla motivated me to explore further studies abroad and also helped me in the application process. I finally ended up joining one of the top schools in the US, University of California at San Diego to pursue Master’s degree in Computer Engineering. I recently joined Apple’s Silicon Engineering Group after completing my graduate work at UCSD. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the faculty and staff at ITM for always being supportive and connecting with me even to this day.
“Being a part of M.Tech program in (VLSI) NCU, is one of Life changing event for me. Under the guidance of Neeraj Shukla, Charu Rana and Vandana Khanna , the dream of being in VLSI industries has come to true this year. What is most appreciable point about the faculties here is they are every time motivator , enabler to new technical skills and supportive. Dr. Neeraj Shukla is gem of VLSI skills and always tries to help their student as much as he can. The labs here is occupied with all latest Cadence tools which has enabled me to do practical’s and learn in a better way. Every quarter there were Industrial meet in which engineers from the VLSI companies come and share their experience and enlightens us what is important , what will be asked in interview and guided us according to our interest. The most important part of program were presentation on every topics every week . I used to present PPT on assigned topics almost every week which has helped me to come over hesitation to speak in front of people. I have enough to say about the program but unfortunately I cant express it in words. Just do the M.Tech program here in NCU and change your Life. Thank you Neeraj Sir and all the faculties of NCU for your great support and technical guidance. Thanks NCU
“I feel privileged to be part of The North Cap University’s growing family. After pursuing the competitive BTech program in Electronics and Communication Engineering, working for a US based Multinational Company dealing in electronic design automation for electric engineering and electronics is a dream come true for me! I still remember my initial days at the university when my professors introduced me to various subjects in this area of study. Of all the subjects, I developed a special interest in Digital & VLSI Design. It was under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Neerja Kr. Shukla that I got the opportunity to develop this interest further. He encouraged and motivated me to undertake various research projects, trainings and workshops. He trained me and helped me grow professionally. I dedicate my job at Mentor Graphics, a leading EDA company to him, the ECE dept and the university!”
I am Shikha Sharma, student of The NorthCap University, batch 2014-2016. I started my career as an intern at Synopsys. I am working as an R & D Engineer in emulation domain. My Success Mantra is “There is no substitute for hard work.” I thank Mr. Neeraj Kumar Shukla and all other lecturers at The NorthCap Univesity, for all their support and guidance that I have been able to achieve this. The thing that inspired me the most was the learning and working environment at the NorthCap University. The hands on learning regarding different tools of Cadence like Virtuoso, Encounter, etc. gave me the practical approach to learn everything right from the beginning, which helped me alot while preparing for my interviews. One important thing I want to mention here for all those who have high aims in life is- To get what you want you need to first plan and manage you time in such a way that you are able to do everything including studies, interview preparations, having fun. Following this, one can also notice an increase in his/her efficiency. All the very best to everyone.
“Being a part of the M. Tech Program (in VLSI DESIGN) at NCU has been a life-changing event of my life. Under the guidance of Dr. Neeraj Kr Shukla and Dr. Vinay Budhraja, I learned not only the technical concepts but they also helped me in conditioning my overall personality. All the other faculty members were also very good and helped me in achieving this dream of joining Cadence. The overall course of this M. Tech program was industry-oriented. More focus was always on doing the things practically and spending more and more time on working on the design tools, available in the labs. The university also has a very good campus and supports a lot of sports activities, in which most of the time I was involved. I feel thankful to God that I got such good mentors who guided me all the way through to what I am today.“
I am greatly gratified to be a part of Institute of Technology and Management as it was an integral part of advancement of my career. I am thankful to all the instructors, colleagues and other helpful resources for fostering me in not only the studies but also in my overall growth and development as a postgraduate engineer in VLSI domain. My postgraduate program became more interesting and focused when I was adored with a prospect to work under the supervision of Prof. (Dr.) Neeraj Kr. Shukla. He gave me various opportunities which helped in my overall development of technical and non-technical skills. With the help of my ever supporting institute, I got chance to my skills in my field of choice, that is, in ASIC Verification Field. This has helped me to enhance my technical dexterity with industry knowledge as an intern in Intel Corporation. He has assisted me countless times in the course of my entire program. I am always be thankful to have such a great person as a mentor in my life.
I am Akshat Mathur, a student of The NorthCap University, Batch of 2014 -2018. I am currently working as an R&D engineer in the emulation division at Mentor, a Siemens Business, Noida. My journey with Mentor started off as being a trainee at the prestigious HEP program that Mentor organizes. My journey ever since has been a total roller coaster. With my perseverance and the amazing guidance of my professors at NCU, I was able to see the vast spectrum of opportunities that the VLSI domain holds and how I should work to grab these opportunities. Looking back I realize much I have learnt from my professors. The knowledge they imbibed in me is actually helping me to solve real industry problems. Pursuit of knowledge is however a never ending process and I still need to learn a lot to converge to my definition of success.

A letter of Recommendation from NCU faculty helped me get into University of Ontario
joined ITMU for postgraduate study in the field of VLSI Design. The amount of industry exposure I got during the course is unparalleled.
The faculty made sure that the VLSI team stays in touch with the latest developments in the industry and guided us to choose our thesis work in the most relevant areas.
The university provided with the latest software, hardware in the labs along with workshops and training from industry leaders, which helped in the easy transition from college to the company.
I started my career with a startup in the field of IP verification, then later moved on to Xilinx as Software Engineer in DSP and now working in the deep learning field in Mathworks.
I would especially like to thank Prof. Neeraj Shukla Sir for providing the team with ample opportunities to enter the industry.
The culture and environment at NCU always motivated me to work hard to achieve my goals. The latest tools available helps me to lean and practice more on the state of the art practices of the VLSI industry.
