“Strive for perfection is everything. Take the best that exists and make it better. If it doesn’t exist, create it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough.” -Henry Royce

The lines said by Henry Royce best describes the strategy and practices that the Department of Mechanical Engineering follows to be a preferred destination for students, researchers, teachers and external stakeholders. Accordingly, our primary focus is on providing the quality education, nurturing innovative thinking and promoting socially relevant research environment in the field of Mechanical Engineering. We also focus on the holistic development of students in tune with the requirements of the industry/ research institutions and other employers.

Department is providing a balanced curriculum – a balance between theoretical foundation and practical applications, technical knowledge and complementary studies, with the aim of producing well-renowned graduates. We have adopted the outcome driven teaching learning approach where each component of the course delivery has a specified outcome which can be measured/evaluated and correlates with the objectives of the program and vision of the department. We often review our teaching methodologies and tries to introduce some of the global best practices and initiatives towards staying ahead in terms of quality and content of the education. For measuring our performance, feedback from all the stakeholders including employers, students, faculty and others is collected, analyzed and used for improvements in our processes including curriculum content and design, delivery methodology and evaluation processes to continuously keep them aligned with the changing requirements of the market.

The students are taught by excellent experienced staff members who have graduated from world renowned universities, and who are very conscientious in carrying out their teaching duties. The approach of the department is to make the learning process for the students interesting and participative with experiential learning and strong emphasis on practical education, and exposure to real time scenarios through strong industry interface. The department is provided with sufficient resources to meet these objectives. In addition to competent, well qualified and experienced faculty, the labs at the department are well equipped, maintained and regularly modernized with latest equipment and industry standard software tools. Independent project work by students is highly encouraged. The faculty is motivated to update their knowledge base through regular faculty development programs and research.

Our alumni cell is continuous working to maintain the good relationships with all our alumni, who are the most valued output of the department. We always try to engage our alumni in best possible way and seek their advice on how best to achieve our aim.

I have a strong belief in the people that make-up this department to achieve its goal.
