Faculty Development Programme

A six day FDP was organized by the Department on ‘New technology areas introduced in course curriculum’ from 5-10 June 2017. The objective of the FDP programme was to make faculty aware of new technology areas for a better teaching-learning process. The new scheme designed for course curriculum includes the subjects from the new technology areas like Internet of Things (IoT), 5th Generation of Mobile Communication, Machine Learning, 3D Printing and Digital Marketing etc.

Emphasis was on hands-on sessions and interdisciplinary talks by industry professionals and senior in-house members on these topics. The FDP was a good learning experience for faculty members and scholars. It facilitated all to understand the importance of keeping themselves updated about new technologies and insights about various aspects of curriculum design and the teaching-learning processes.

Students Summer Training Programme

The Department organized a four day In-house Summer Training Programme for 1st Year BTech ECE students on 19 May 2017 and from 23 to 25 May 2017. Special hands-on training was on Basic Electronics and Measuring Instruments, Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Python. The basic aim behind the programme was to make students aware of the current technology after which they were alloted projects based on the modules covered. The training was coordinated by Mr Pankaj Rakheja and Ms Amanpreet Kaur with the support of the whole Department of ECE and Mr Sandeep Singh and Ms Prerna Singal, Department of CSE who successfully covered these modules. Students benefited from the training as well as enjoyed all the sessions.

Mitsubishi Electric Cup-2018

An awareness session about the forthcoming 3rd Mitsubishi Electric Cup-2018 to be held in Pune in February 2018 was conducted by Ms Ripanjeet Kaur, Sr Engineer, Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt Ltd on 23 August 2017 under the collaboration between NCU and Mitsubishi Electric India. The aim of the session was to inform the students  Ms Ripanjeet shared the importance and the theme of the Cup and the procedure and guidance/support provided by Mitsubishi in terms of workshop/training to the short listed students. 3rd Year and 2nd Year Students, Depts of EECE and ME attended the session. It was decided that a preliminary round to select the best two projects for the Mitsubishi Electric Cup-2018 would be held on 28 August 2017 by Dr Anjali Garg, Dr Shaveta Arora and Mr Abhishek. The session was assisted by two Alumni, Mr Sahil and Mr Karan, ECE (Class of 2016) who secured 5th position in the 1st Mitsubishi Cup held in 2016. They shared their experiences with the students and clarified their doubts regarding the competition. The session was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Ravindra Ojha, Director, SOET and coordinated by Dr Anjali Garg and Dr Shaveta Arora. [ECE2017O004]

Workshop on Wireless Sensor Networks

A one day workshop on ‘Wireless Sensor Networks was organized by the Department for BTech 5th Sem, 7th Sem, and MTech 2nd Sem students on 22 August 2017. The workshop was conducted by Advanced Technologies, Chandigarh. The workshop included hands-on session on wireless sensor nodes and their communication using Zig-Bee. The workshop was helpful to the students for their final year projects and MTech thesis. [ECE2017WO008]

Guest Lecture on Networking and Security

The Department organized a guest lecture on ‘Networking and Security’ by Mr Manish Bhardwaj, Network Security Expert from Azure Skynet Solutions Pvt Ltd, Gurugram on 3 August 2017. The lecture was attended by EECE and CSE 2nd and 3rd Year students. It was an interactive session focusing on small projects related to networking, how to implement networking in corporate sectors and how to deal with related security aspects. The students got an idea of security features related to internet browsing, accessing social networking sites, netbanking and other latest trends. Job opportunities for Electronics & Communication and Computer Science Engineering students were also discussed. The lecture was coordinated by Ms Shaveta Arora and Ms Amanpreet Kaur. [ECE2017G005].

Guest Lecture on Introduction to 5th Generation of Mobile Communication

The Dept organized a guest lecture on ‘Introduction to 5th Generation of Mobile Communication’ by Mr Sandeep Sharma, General Manager, Ericssion India Pvt Ltd. for 2nd and 3rd Year CSE, ME and ECE students on 13 September 2017. Mr Sharma discussed the importance of 5G and the flow of technology from 1G to 5G. He spoke about 5G main components, wireless access transport system, Cloud, network applications & management and the technology beyond 2020. His main emphasis was on cases using 5G. He discussed the challenges of 4G in the light of impending and crucial future communication needs and reviewed the lessons learnt from the perspective of implementation and systems operation. Guest Lecture on Industry Applications of IoT

An expert lecture on the topic ‘Industry Applications of IoT’ by Mr Manas Jain, Associate Director, Axtria - Ingenious Insights, Gurugram was organized for BTech ECE/CSE 5th Semester students on 8 September 2017. Mr Jain spoke about the latest technological trends in IoT, its applications in industry and the infrastructure and resources required for IoT. He discussed the use of IoT in marketing & advertising, environmental monitoring, manufacturing applications, healthcare applications and many other. Students discussed project ideas in this domain. The event was coordinated by Ms Vandana Khanna and Ms Amanpreet Kaur. [ECE2017G008]

Workshop on LabVIEW applications with practical realization

A workshop on 'LabVIEW applications with practical realization' was conducted by LabVIEW Academy (National Instruments) in collaboration with AKGEC, Ghaziabad on 9 September 2017. The workshop was project based and aimed at improving the application of LabVIEW software for students’ projects and to motivate them to work on real-life projects. The workshop aimed at building theoretical concepts, imparting Labview features and programming knowledge. Live projects based on Labview were discussed. 25 students participated in the workshop and found it informative and interesting. The event was coordinated by Dr Anjali Garg and Dr Shaveta Arora. Santulan Society

Santulan Society organized an event to spread awareness about the harmful effects of burning fire-crackers and to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly way on 17 October 2017. The event was inaugurated by gifting saplings and lighting earthen diyas. Students and faculty members took a pledge to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali with no fire-crackers, which was followed by a display of posters by students on the same theme. The dress code for the celebrations was ethnic wear and on the spot prizes, in the form of mementos were distributed to the best dressed students and faculty members. Celebrations concluded with distribution of chocolates and photo sessions. [ECE2017O009]

Workshop on Robotics and Projects

The Department organized a workshop on 'Robotics and Projects' for school students of Gurugram at the University on 11 October 2017. The event received an overwhelming response and over 70 students from popular schools of Gurugram participated in the workshop such as Amity International School, Lions Public School, Maurya School, Sun City School, Rotary Public School, CCA School and Drona Public School. The workshop included an audio-visual presentation about NCU, Dept of EECE and a guided tour of the University. Students worked in groups and were given an opportunity for hands-on work on projects. Several projects on Robots were demonstrated. Students participated enthusiastically in all the activities and were awarded certificates. The overall feedback of the workshop was excellent. Workshop on Internet of Things (IoT)

The Department organized a one day Workshop on 'Internet of Things' (IoT) in association with IIT Bhubaneswar and TechieNest (SPIE sponsored society) for BTech ECE and CSE students on 25 October 2017. Mr Prashant Singh and Mr Gaurav Kumar, Embedded Engineers at TechieNest conducted the workshop on  topics such as Understanding of IoT Market Perspective, Future Aspects of IoT, Real World IoT design Constraints, Industrial Automation and Commercial Building, Automation in IoT, Controlling Devices, Interfacings of Peripherals, Serial Communication etc. Along with gaining theoretical knowledge, students also had hands-on sessions on 'arduino uno' board. Software, study material and certificates were provided by TechieNest in association with IIT Bhubaneshwar. Lifetime membership and guidance for minor and major projects with lifetime assistance will be provided by the company. The event coordinated by Ms Amanpreet Kaur and Mr Pankaj Rakheja. Expert Lecture on 4G and new changes happening in 5G

A guest lecture by Mr. Anand Pimparkar, National Head Transmission, Nokia Siemens Networks, was conducted by EECE Department on 9.2.2016 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm in room no. N407. The lecture was attended by HOD EECE Dept., faculty EECE Dept., 3rd year and 4th Year ECE students.

Mr. Pimparkar covered Big Data, Internet of things, 3G (LTE), 4G followed by latest happenings in 5G in industries. He also connected Optical communication and OSI layer model in the present scenario of telecommunication. The lecture extended with career oriented talks on Job opportunities for Electronics and Communication Engineering. It was a very informative session where students and faculty got idea of latest trends going in industry.

GUEST LECTURE on Introduction to IP Multimedia Systems

 

A lecture on “Introduction to IP Multimedia Systems” was delivered on Jan 19th , 2016 by Mr. Rishi Asnani, Senior Solution Architect, Mobile Core Networks, Ericsson India Pvt. Ltd and coordinated by Dr. Rekha Vig.

Mr. Rishi Asnani has experience of 20+ years in Telecommunications / ICT industry, primarily in the areas of Mobile/PSTN/Enterprise network planning, operations, support, performance and training. He has worked with Telecom operators and vendors within India and overseas. This lecture was primarily conducted for ECE Semester VI students to introduce the concept of IMS to them.

Mr. Asnani explained the IP Multimedia Subsystem or IP Multimedia Core NetworkSubsystem (IMS), which is an architectural framework for delivering IP multimedia services. It is a concept for an integrated network of telecommunications carriers that would facilitate the use of IP (Internet Protocol) for packet communications in all known forms over wireless or landline. 

The lecture was well heard by a house-full students.

 

 

 

A knowledgeable lecture was delivered by  higher officials of BBNL  at our NCU Campus, for seminar, on 19.11.2015 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.in Lab 303 old building, specifically for students of EECE Deptt ,to address the issue and vision of our P.M. on Digital India Concept  and Mobile Computing by Mr.Anil Nandra

Guest Lecture on Internet of Things & the future connected world

A guest lecture by Mr. Sudarshan Sengupta- Practice Head Core & Cloud for region India, Ericsson, was conducted by EECE Department on 27.10.2015 from 2:30 pm to 4:20 pm in Room no. N302. The lecture was attended by HOD EECE, HOD CSE, faculty EECE Dept., faculty EECE Dept., ECE and CSE final and third year students.

Mr. Sudarshan Sengupta presented how the network of physical objects or "things" is embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. He also presented that the Internet of Things (IoT) is an environment in which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. He shared that IoT has evolved from the convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the Internet. It was a very informative session where students and faculty got idea of latest trends and its scope in industry.

Guest Lecture on “Thin Film: Its Characterization and Application  by Dr. Ashok Kumar Assistant Professor, Materials Science Department, N.I.T Kurukshetra

Dr. Ashok Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at National Institute of Technology (N.I.T.) Kurukshetra. He recieved his M.Tech. and Ph.D. Degree from I.I.T. Kharagpur and I.I.T. Kanpur, respectively. Before joining as faculty in 2013, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Virginia Tech, USA. On predoc- assignements, he visited Germany, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. Other coutries visited by him include, China, Switzerland, Thailand, etc. Dr. Kumar’s basic focus towards research is in the area of Nanotechnology and Energy. He is  reviewer for several publications of Elsevier, Royal Society of Chemistry, ZAAC, etc. Dr. Kumar is a recipient of Fast Track Scheme for Young Scientists Award- 2013, Invention Award, Intellectual Ventures -2011, Most Popular Micrograph Award, Materials Advantage 2009. He is member of Institute Innovation Club, which works on the idea of search, spread and celebrate the innovations. Recently, he has been nominated nodal officer from NIT Kurukshetra for Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan, a Ministry of Human Recourses and Development initiative.

 

 

In the talk Dr. Ashok discussed different characterization techniques of thin film. Its use in research and industry.. The purpose of Dr. Ashok Kumar visit was to start possible collaboration of our faculties with N.I.T Kurukshetra. He explored the Nanotechnology facilities available at N.I.T Kurukshetra so NCU faculties can find matching with their research area.

Guest Lecture by Prof.Ved Prakash Sandlas on 14-04-2015

Prof. Ved Prakash Sandlas retired from regular Govt. service in Feb 2005 after working in ISRO (1967-1986) and DRDO (1986-2005) in the areas of Electronics & Communications, Satellite Launch Vehicles and R&D Management. Subsequently (during 2008-13) he functioned as the founder Director General, Amity Institute of Space Science and Technology, and Amity Institute of Aerospace Engineering, Noida.

He was designated Distinguished Scientist and appointed as Chief Controller R & D, DRDO during 1996-2005. As Director, Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun (1986-96) he was responsible for the introduction of satellite communication era in the defence services. Earlier, he worked at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Trivandrum and grew up to become Group Director, Electronics (1984-86) and, Mission Director/Project Director SLV-3 (1980-84), and was responsible for the two successful launchings of SLV-3 and Rohini Satellites on May 31, 1981 and April 17, 1983.

He has been awarded DRDO’s ‘Scientist of the Year’ award (1988), FIE Foundation National Award (1998) for Science & Technology, and IIT Kharagpur Distinguished Alumnus Award (2012). He has extensively lectured and published on Project Management, Satellite Launch Vehicle Systems, R&D Management, Electronics, Communication Systems, Amateur Radio, EMI/EMC, Electromagnetic Radiation Hazards, Defence Space Systems and Cyber Security.

Prof. Sandlas is Fellow, Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Institution of  Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Astronautical Society of India, and NGN Forum; Vice President, Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI) and Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT-India); President, dB Society of USA (India Chapter) and Microwave Applications Society of India (MASI); and Patron, Society of EMC Engineers (India).

He visited The NorthCap University as Mentor under INAE Scheme on 14th April 2015 to deliver expert lecture on “Satellite Communication and trends.” He discussed the following topics like Satcom History, Indian Satcom scene, International Satcom scene ,Mobile Satcom ,DTH System ,Military Satcom and Future  .Students of Final year B.Tech ECE and M.Tech ECE and faculty who attended the lecture  find it very informative and interesting.

Guest Lecture on 'Career in networking'

A guest lecture on the topic 'Career in networking' was held on 28-4-15. It was conducted in the form of a webinar. The speaker was Mr. Navanshu Sehgal from Cisco Systems Private Ltd. He has an experience of a large number of years working in the field of networking, specifically switching. He is a CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional). The lecture on the topic 'Career in networking', talked about the various fields of work available at Cisco and also other choices in the industry under the networking domain. The speaker also shed light on the resources available for learning the skills required by the networking companies and how a student should approach getting a Cisco certification. The students attending the session were from ECE 4th semester and MTech. Later, after the lecture, the students said that they got a lot of clarity from attending this lecture and expressed their desire to have some more hands-on sessions on networking as well. Mr. Sidharth Bhatia and Mr. Mandeep Singh were the coordinator for this guest lecture.
