Material Science

 

It is well equipped laboratory with experiments based on basic electronics devices like PN junction diode, Zener diode, clipper, clamper circuits, rectifier, voltage regulator, BJT, JFET and MOSFET characteristics and few experiments based on virtual labs/software based experiments. This lab being held for B.Tech. 1st year students of EECE Department is very important for imparting practical knowledge to students and improving their basics and concepts.

Experiments are based on advanced equipments like CRO, Function Generator, Power Supply, Transformer, Electronic Devices like PN Diode, Zener Diode, BJT, JFET, MOSFET, Bread Board, etc. Further value addition in experiments has been included by having Virtual Lab experiments/Software based experiments consisting of VI characteristics of PN diode in forward/reverse biased condition, Zener diode, VI characteristics of BJT and MOSFET. Further, software based experiments are also added to allow students to modify the characteristics of devices like gain, type of device – P type/N type, operating temperature, resistance value, breakdown voltage of zener diode, model etc and then compare the results obtained. So, students are in a position to appreciate their related course subject and understand even the advanced concepts after performing the bread board based experiments and software based experiments using ORCAD and Virtual Lab.

 

List of Experiments

  • To study the V-I characteristics of p-n junction diode and determine Io and Vγ.
  • To plot DC load line of a given circuit of diode and determine operating point, DC resistance and small signal resistance.
  • To study the characteristics of Zener diode and hence determine the dynamic resistance and knee voltage from the characteristic.
  • To study zener diode as voltage regulator.
  • To study half wave and full wave rectifier circuit and find their ripple factor
  • To study half wave and full wave rectifier circuit with capacitor as a shunt filter and find their ripple factor.
  • To study clipper circuits
  • To study clamper circuits.
  • To study and plot the input characteristics of common emitter transistor & calculate its small signal parameters.
  • To study and plot the output characteristics of common emitter transistor & calculate its small signal parameters.
  • To study and plot the output characteristics of common source configuration of JFET & calculate its small signal parameters.
  • To study and plot the output characteristics of common source configuration of MOSFET & calculate its small signal parameters.
  • To study and plot the transfer characteristics of common source configuration of MOSFET & calculate its small signal parameters.

Value Added Experiments

  • To study the V-I characteristics of p-n junction diode and determine Io and Vγ using OrCAD/virtual lab.
  • To study clamper circuits using OrCAD/virtual lab
  • To study and plot the output characteristics of common emitter transistor & calculate its small signal parameters using OrCAD/virtual.
