Departmental Highlights

The Department of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering is a well-established department in School of Engineering and Technology at The NorthCap University. It provides an excellent environment to the students to pursue their academic goals, create new knowledge and evolve innovative technologies to achieve holistic development which has paid rich dividends in terms of superior campus placements for our students in well known companies. 

 

Excellent Faculty

A team of highly experienced, motivated and hardworking faculty is the main strength of the department. The EECE department has around 20 faculty members. Apart from regular teaching, faculty is actively involved in research and publishes papers in their fields of expertise in reputed journals, author books as well as works on the sponsored research projects, deliver guest lectures, chair technical conference sessions and engage in other outreach activities.

 

Teaching Learning Processes

Regular teaching of courses is supplemented by various technologically advanced methods of pedagogy activities like:

  • Online Learning Management System, where the teachers can share class notes, presentations, video lectures, weblinks, assignments, tutorials etc. with the students.
  • Regular industrial visits, interesting guest lectures and workshops and training programs.
  • Industry recommended Value-Added Courses in emerging technologies which enhance the employability of our students.
  • Peer-Tutor program for the ones that need academic support .
  • Student counselling to review their progress and make suggestions regarding their education and careers.
  • Spoken Tutorial Program thoughIIT Bombay andQEEE fromIIT Madras both sponsored by MHRD , Govt of India. These initiatives provide certification opportunities in various subjects by IITs to our students
  • The dept also has an MOU with IIT Delhi for their Virtual Lab Program.

 

Practical and Project oriented learning

The department is well equipped with state-of-art laboratories which have latest equipment, instruments, kits and a large collection of software tools and these are constantly upgraded to match the requirements of the new curricula. In addition to the curricula-related equipment and software, many advanced level eqpts e.g. optical link simulators, DSP and FPGA kits and PCB fabrication facility etc. allow the students to take the laboratory experience to a whole new level. The labs are kept open till extended hours to encourage students to conduct practical work beyond curriculum.

Strong focus is laid on projects and implementation which is the most vital part of engineering education. Minor projects are developed during early years and major projects in final year of both B.Tech and M.Tech. programs both in-house and in association with industry. Many projects have won prizes both in and outside the University in various contests. Many of these are of contemporary social relevance and some have been patented.

 

Industry Exposure

To give students a feel of corporate work environment and enhance their practical knowledge and skills beyond curricula, the students are placed in various companies for multiple summer internships. The first year students are also given in-house project work during summer break to realise the importance and benefits of practical work right from start.

 

Latest and Industry-oriented courses and syllabus

Following the best practices in education worldwide, the department has introduced follows outcome based teaching learning methodology  which largely depends on the efforts of faculty and feedbacks from various stakeholders like students , industry , faculty , alumni , parents , society and so on. Curriculums are designed and upgraded regularly based on the inputs, with clearly defined outcomes for each subject as well as the relevant program. The major enablers for improving our teaching learning process and the curriculum are the student’s placements, their jobs categories, higher education pursued and entrepreneurship success rate. The outcomes help us redefine our teaching practices.

 

Continuous assessment

Though continuous assessment comprising of mid-term tests, quizzes, viva-voce keeps the students remain well involved working towards their academic goals. The students are encouraged to enhance their confidence level by taking part in presentations, mini projects and general knowledge tests. All the students are motivated guided to excel in National level competitive exams like GATE & CAT.

 

Holistic Development of students

Departmental biannual magazine named ‘Livewire, My Cup of Tech Tea’ aims at developing the technical aptitude of students and teachers beyond the study curriculum and a platform to share views on technical and non-technical topics. Various professional societies like IEEE, ISTE etc. and other clubs are active where group discussion, technical and non-technical quizzes, debates, extempore, essay writing, brain teasers, technical film shows etc. are conducted throughout the year. Participation in sport activities are encouraged for all students to keep them fit and healthy, for which a sports complex comprising of large cricket and football ground, lawn-tennis court and table-tennis etc. have been provided. Intra-college and intercollege tournaments keep the spirits of the students high.

 

Industry Interface

In order to go hand-in-hand with the corporate world, department has established industry liaison with some of the major corporate houses. The department has MoUs with industries like Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) for training, certification and placement of our Final-year students. The dept. has recently expanded its industry linkages by signing an MOU with Power Grid Corporation of India  Limited , a prestigious Govt of India Undertaking for collaboration in a number of areas of mutual interest. To make the students industry-ready in all aspects and to improve the employability of the students, the department has designed additional special skill development modular programs which include development of the soft skills such as communication skills, teamwork, leadership, ethics and social responsibility, and general personality development. External agencies are also hired to provide personality development programs (PDP) for overall grooming. The University has tied up with CoCubesand Aspiring Mindsfor preplacement assessment of students.

 

MoU with IBM for career education courses

The dept has recently  signed an MOU with IBM for introduction of cutting edge technology courses like cloud computing , big data , data security and internet of things etc, These courses which will be delivered by industry experts from IBM are  available to all students. These will help our students significantly in enhancing their employability with high tech electronics , telecom and computer companies.

 

Excellent Placements

Good engineering professionals from this department are highly sought after by electronics and telecom companies. The , placement record of EECE students is impressive, with almost 100% of the eligible students being placed consistently every year. Some of the students have been recruited by core design companies like Mentor Graphics, Cadence, ST Microelectronics iwith starting annual packages of over Rs 10 Lakhs.
