Events and Achievements
  • The University of Dayton, Ohio, USA signed a MoU with The NorthCap University, Gurugram, Haryana one of the leading private University in the NCR/Haryana, to undertake joint collaborative research in various fields and for the exchange of students and faculty.The MoU was signed by Dr. Paul H. Benson, provost of Dayton University, USA and Prof. S. K Sharma, Pro Vice Chancellor of The NorthCap University, India. The universities agreed to provide exchange faculty members, research facilities, access to university libraries, and other assistance and advice when necessary. The MoU shall remain in effect for an initial period of five years, w. e. f May 15, 2017. This partnership allows us to prepare us to think and act globally, provide us with extensive research opportunities. As the relationship grows, we will undertake joint research in the fields of Computer Science and Engineering & Electronics and Communication Engineering. The process of MoU was started during the visit of Dr. Vijayan K. Asari, Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Dayton Ohio.
  • Aaditya Verma, a student of first year B.Tech CSE, has put all his skills and abilities to test and has created a project on “Socket Programming” in C language which enables the user to connect various devices to a local network and transfer data among them.   • Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an expert lecture entitled “Big Data Analytics Landscape” on April 22, 2017 in seminar hall. The guest lecture speaker was Mr.Vasu, Senior Engagement Manager, Axtria. The lecture started with the introduction Big Data Analytics. Moving ahead he elaborated how we solve typical business problem using big data analytics. He introduced about big data analytics project phases including business understanding, data understanding, data preparation, modeling, evaluation and deployment. Further, he explained about machine learning algorithms for big data analytics. He then emphasized current challenges and future of data analytics industry. It was an interactive lecture for the students it ended with query session by the guest. The lecture was attended by B. Tech CSE/IT IV Year and M Tech CSE students. The lecture was coordinated by Dr. Vijendra Singh.

  • The Student Chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) was conducted a workshop on 3D Game development from 17th to 25th May 2017 to the first year students of B.Tech.
  • An Interactive session was organized by CSE & IT department with our Alumni Ms. Swati Sehgal (2010 Batch) under Alumni Interaction. Ms. Swati is presently working as Network Engineer with Intel, Ireland. She suggested students to focus more on fundamentals. She also discussed about selection process Universities follows for higher education. She also shared some her experiences of ITB, Ireland with students.The session was coordinated by Dr. Shilpa Mahajan

  • Dr.Latika Singh and Dr.Yogita Gigras attended an expo on “3rd Smart Cities India 2017” which was held in Pragati Maidan from 10-12May2017, New Delhi. This event was a three days event, where industry experts, policy makers, innovators, influencers, entrepreneurs, etc., from across the globe came to share solutions, product innovations, research discoveries, compelling case studies, technical talks, panel discussions, best management practices with industry peers. This event gave very good ideas for projects that encompasses innovations in the field of smart cities, wearables, design applications, data analytics etc.
  • The department has been taking initiatives to help the third year students get the internship opportunity. With respect to that the following companies have visited the department : Stratbeans Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Gurgaon (10 students), Deity, Delhi(02 students), Open Hardware Days, Hyderabad(03 students), Digitas, New Delhi(02 students), Edunext Technologies, Ghaziabad(06 students), Ansyst, Gurgaon(02 students), Mendo infotech, Gurgaon(03 students), 360 degree cloud, Faridabad(02 students), TrendzLink, Gurgaon(01 student), Ritesource Pharma solutions, Gurgaon(02 students), HCL info Systems(02 students), Trupey, Gurgaon(4 students), DRDO, New Delhi(3 students), Skoolfi, Gurgaon(1 student), Atlanta Healthcare, Gurgaon(02 students).
  • The department of CSE & IT conducted the first five rounds of preplacement interviews for B.Tech (CSE) pre-final year students on the following dates in the month of April: 01, 08, 19, 21 and 22. The objective of this drive was to facilitate our students in realizing their strengths and areas of improvements so that they are able to identify the domain that best suits their profile. In this regard, eminent industry experts were invited to conduct the interviews. The experts invited include Mr. Nishit Kumar (Service Delivery Manager TCS), Mr. Aman Chandna (Service Delivery Manager, TCS), Mr. Gaurav Sidana (SVT/PV Engineer Ciena) and Mr Varun Rao, (Associate Product Manager, Walker Digital Table Systems).The interviews were successfully conducted, 170 students participated in the program. The drive was co-ordinated by Ms. Jyoti Sahni and Ms. Neha Sahu.
  • A guest lecture was organized by Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology on 24th April, 2017. The lecture was on the topic “Data Center Security”. It was delivered by Dr Yoginder Talwar, Scientist D, Network Security Division of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, New Delhi. He has been associated to NIC since 1990 and is working in security domain since 2000. He is looking after Firewall infrastructure installed at all national and state data centers of NIC. The lecture talked about the various issues related to Data Center Security. Firewall Management, Switch Security and Vulnerability Scan were discussed in detail. The lecture was coordinated by Dr Kavita Khanna, Ms Jyoti Sahni and Ms Mehak Khurana.
  • An expert talk was organized by CSE & IT department on the topic “Designing of Web applications using MVC Design Pattern" by our Alumni Mr. Chirag Aggarwal under Alumni Interaction for B.Tech CSE 6th semester and 4th semester students on 10th April 2017.  He discussed about the industrial need of MVC design pattern in PHP based web development. He discussed the different components and the linkage of those components in detail with the help of real life web example. Students have attended his lecture with enthusiasm.It was organised by Dr.Supriya Raheja and Dr.Shilpa Mahajan.
  • Department of CSE &IT organized an expert lecture on “Cyber World Threats & Awareness” by Mr. Rakshit Tandon on Apr. 18, 2017. Mr. Tandon is founder/Chairman of A & R Info Security Solutions Pvt Ltd and has experience of more than 17 years in Security Domain. He is Director Executive - Council of Information Security and Cyber Security Consultant to Internet and Mobile Association of India. Mr. Tandon is marked as a Resource Person/Faculty for Cyber Crime Investigations at BPRD Bureau of Police Research and Development for Training Law Enforcement Officers across the Country. This event was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Latika Singh (HoD, CSE/IT)  by Dr. Prachi.
  • CSE & IT department has taken initiative to get tied up with IIT Madras for conducting Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) program for students to bridge the gaps and enhance their all round development towards employability. In Current Semester, this month Course on Public Key Cryptography has been introduced for third year students where live lectures were being delivered by IIT Faculty, Dr. Chester Rebeiro and projected in remote classrooms to 54 students. In Cryptography 48 students have cleared the subject with more than 50% marks. This QEEE event was coordinated by Mehak Khurana
  • CSE & IT Dept took initiative for FOSS training (Free Source Software Training) by IIT Bombay for students through spoken tutorials software project for 2nd, 4th and 6th Semester. 2nd semester students participated in subject C/Advance C, 4th Semester in Ruby, PHP, and Python and 6th semester in PHP, and Python. After the course, test was conducted and students with more than 40% marks have been issued certificates from IIT Bombay. The event was coordinated by Ms. Mehak Khurana and Ms. Garima Sharma.
  • Ms.Jagdeep Kaur has been invited for  the  technical program committee of NGCT 2017 (2017 3rd International Conference on Next Generation Computing Technologies) organized by  School of Computer Science & Engineering University of Petroleum & Energy Studies Bidholi Campus, Via- Prem Nagar, Dehradun Uttarakhand (INDIA) - 248 007.
  • In pursuance of our efforts towards building a technically skilled student community, the department of CSE & IT has conjoined with the AWS educate initiative. This would facilitate training of the CSE & IT students on real Cloud environment and make them ready for the ever growing Cloud business model. The AWS Educate initiative will provide four important resources to our students:
    • Grant of USD $100 AWS credits to each student.
    • Access to free and discounted AWS Training resources.
    • Access to free Online Labs.
    • Online and in-person collaboration and networking opportunities.

    With this initiative, the department of CSE & IT looks forward to building an exceptionally skilled workforce for the Cloud age.

  • An expert talk was organized by CSE & IT department for Cyber Security BTech and MTech  students on 11-04-2017. This session was conducted by Mr. Rahul Tyagi, Vice President Lucideus Technology Pvt. Ltd.  on “The Next Generation Cyber Attacks & Threats”. He discussed about the different ways of exploitation. How we can hack a mobile of a user, how we can exploit the sites to download movies and pdf files just by accessing internet smartly and many more. Students have attended his lecture enthusiastically. He has also suggested different type of projects which can be undertaken by students.

  • Prof. B.Chandra visited the department on 12th April 2017 to hold a discussion with the members of Data Analytics Group and discussed about the research areas and gaps in this domain and guided about the latest tools and techniques also.
  • An expert talk was organized by CSE & IT department on “Database Management Tools and their Industry Relevance"   by our Alumni Mr. Aman Singh Dhaka (2004 Batch) under Alumni Interaction. Mr. Aman is presently working as SME DBA with IBM, India. He has over 8 years of extensive experience in Service operations. It was coordinated by Dr.Shilpa Mahajan.
  • Alumni cell of CSE department organizes interactive session for CSE third year students under Alumni Mentorship Programme on 13/4/2017. Mr. Manmohan Maheshwari and Mr. Manan Jain are currently pursuing MS in Capital College, Pennsylvania State University. The objective of this session is to guide students to prepare for GRE exams.

  • Industrial Visit to Cyber Security Engagement Centre, Microsoft

    A group of 12 including faculty members (SOCER group) and students reached the CSEC premises around 10:00 am and was warmly received by Ms Vinita Lamba..on 12 April, 2017. The workshop started at 10:30 am where Ms. Vinita Lamba gave presentation on current scenario of security in India. She gave a brief introduction about the Digital Crime Unit and its work environment. In the next session from 10:45 to 11:15, it was taken over by Mr. Jaideep Singh Kochar who is the Cyber Forensic Analyst. He gave a demo about the usage of active directories for the management of different systems and their requirements. After a short tea break, Mr.Stafin Jacob (Technology Specialist) gave us an insight into the Enhanced Endpoint and Platform Security- like how we can protect ourselves from identity theft, data theft and malware intrusion and also explained what is done post breach detection and how is the investigation carried out highlighting the features of Windows 10 Security. Post lunch, a session on Email Security and Data Complaince was conducted from 2:00 to 3:00 pm by Mr.Randhir Kumar Dhawan who is a Technology Specialist in Security. He explained the various attacks and threats an email can create and how we can manage to prevent them. The last session was taken by Mr.Manish Tiwari, the chief security advisor of Microsoft from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. It was about Enterprise Security which focused on the critical information infrastructure. They even gave as an idea on how students can leverage their career in cyber security through various certifications. Overall, Session was very interactive and a good learning experience

  • A group of 42 B.Tech CSE students from 2nd and 4th semester attended the workshop on "Digital India Programme" at Centre of e-Governance (CeG), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), New Delhi on 25.04.17. The students learnt about the e-Governance projects being implemented through National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), to bring in efficiency and effectiveness in citizen-centric services, socio-economic transformation, especially in the fields of education, health, skill-building, entrepreneurship and in creating employment opportunities. Five students won prizes in the Digital India Quiz. Two faculty members Dr. Akansha Singh and Ms. Jyoti Sahni accompanied the students for the visit.


  • Two Codesprints were organized aiming to aware students about Competitive Programming and Online Learning Resources like HackerRank :

    NCU CodeSprint (25th March 2017)
    In the first edition of NCU CodeSprint, there were 5 challenges 3 easy and 2 medium. Contest ended with last two challenges unsolved. TOP 3 Rankings were
    1) Rohit Malhotra (3rd Year) 
    2) Aadish Goel(2nd Year) 
    3) Sachin Kushvaha (3rd Year) There were more than 150+ registrations including students from all the years. 

    NCU CodeSprint 2 had 130+ registrations.  It was on 16 April 2017.
    There were 6 challenges, 3 Easy and 3 Medium. Contest ended with last challenge unsolved. All the challenges were NCU themed so that student can relate the problem statements with themselves and can understand more clearly.

    Both the contests used HackerRank as the platform.

  • Department of CSE & IT organized a guest lecture on Privacy and Security in Online Social Media (PSOSM) on 22nd April 2017. Lectured was delivered by Eminent Speaker of ACM India, Dr. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru. He is Assistant Professor, at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Delhi. It was coordinated by Mehak Khurana.
  • The Student Chapter of Computer Society of India (CSI) of The NorthCap University, Gurugram, organized a special event for children of Shakuntalam Shiksha Kendra (school for underprivileged kids), Gurugram, on 23rd March, 2017. The faculty along with 12 children visited the university. All the participants are given gifts and refreshments are served to all at the end of the event. The event has been coordinated by Dr. A. Charan Kumari, CSI Student Branch Counsellor, Dr. Prachi, CSI member and Mr. Vijap Pratap Singh.

  • To enhance the programming skills and to boost the confidence of the students in coding, the NCU Student Chapter of Computer Society of India conducted a Coding Competition on 22nd March, 2017. The competition was open to all the students of the university. The winners of the event are :  First position : Aadish Goel (15CSU001) , Second position : Ayush Singh Rathore (16CSU074) , Third position : Rohit (16CSU305).The event was organized by Dr.A.Charan Kumari, CSI Students Branch Counsellor with the support of Mr.Vijay Pratap Singh.

  • Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an expert lecture entitled “Machine Learning and its Real Time Applications” on March 01, 2017 in The NCU auditorium. The expert speaker was Prof. Vijayan K. Asari, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Dayton, Ohio, USA.The lecture was attended by 200 B. Tech CSE II Year and III Year students and faculty members. The session was coordinated by Dr. Vijendra Singh.

 

  • A workshop on Ethical Hacking was organised on 16 March 2017, by the Google Student’s Club, the most substantial and coveted student organisation at The NorthCap University. The aim of this workshop was to focus on the Ethical Hacking services, which are rapidly gaining attention as an essential security practice. The club’s core members, Prateek Arora and Arushi Thakur, drove the workshop. It was coordinated by Ms.Jyotika Pruthi.

 

  • Dr B Chandra visited the department of CSE/IT for mentoring the students and faculty of Data analysis group on 10th March 2017.She discussed about latest research trends of deep learning and neural networks.
  • Department of CSE/IT organised a special talk on Information Security and Digital Forensics on 3rd of March.  We has invited two of our distinguished Alumni one from Mechanical and one from ECE for who talked about Information Security, Digital forensic, various career paths and salary options followed by the interactive session with students and faculties. Saurabh Arora holding experience in Microsoft as security analyst now in CEB group of companies as Senior Security Engineer and Jaiveer Jain from HCL Infosystems were the speakers. It was organised by Alumni Cell of CSE/IT.

 

  • Department of CSE/IT is pleased to share that five students have been placed in UTS for internship and 8 students have been placed in Stratbeans.
  • The Computer Society of India (CSI), Students Chapter of the The NorthCap University, Gurugram, organized a gaming event on 9th February 2017, during the Club Week, 2017. The objective of this event was to motivate the students to learn and apply the current trends. Several games were developed by the CSE 1st year students (Ranjeet Singh Rajput, STAR WARS, Ravi Rathee, NINJA WARRIOR, Mr. Ravi Kundu, Platform, Mr. Rohit Chahar, Bounce, Pulkit Talwar, Walking Dead). All the developers received prizes. The event was well coordinated by Rachita Gupta and Rahul (student coordinators) under the supervision of Dr. A. Charan Kumari, CSI Students Branch Counsellor.


  • The Computer Society of India (CSI) Students wing of The NorthCap University, Gurugram has organized a one hour awareness session for 1st and 2nd year computer science students on 7th Feb 2017. The objective of this session was to make them aware of competitions and opportunities for which they can gear up themselves. Abhay Abraham (14CSU008) and Urvika Gola (14CSU225) had an interactive talk with CSI students. This session was coordinated by Dr. Prachi Ahlawat, for the benefit of CSI students.
  • The Dept of CSE/IT organized a guest lecture on Agile Software Development Model. The session was delivered by Mr.Varun Rao who is working as an Associate Product Manager in Walker Digital Table Systems. It was coordinated by Ms.Hitesh and Ms.Suman Bhatia.

  • The CSE&IT Department  organized a Guest Lecture on Data Mining: Industry Applications” by Ms. Prachi Saraph  on 7th February, 2017 (Tuesday).Ms. Prachi has done her masters in computer science at University of South Florida. She has spent over 13 years in IT industry, in business intelligence and analytics and has worked for SAS research and Development which is the market leader in building statistics, BI and analytics related platform, tools, solutions and products.

 

 

  • Mr.Nolan visited the department on 23rd Feb and discussed various opportunities in ITB Ireland and also made the students fall into a meet up with our students Divya and Kunal through Skype who are currently studying in ITB,Ireland.

  • Pooja Khunger from CSE and Kartika Kanodia from ECE have received best project award for “IOT device for home automation”on 17th Feb at GD Goenka University. Pooja Khunger has worked on the software part of the project.
  • ProLan - the Professional Lantern, on 15th February, 2017 was organized by the student chapter of The NorthCap University for Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Through ProLan, the aim was to encourage our peers towards making better choices academically and professionally for technological advancement and excellence. Mr. Rohan Dev Talwar (A Well known Debator, TedX Talker,Analyst KPMG ) held a discussion on “The Demographic Dividend of India".
  • Game development and IoT workshops organized by Computer Society of India (CSI) Students chapter of NCU has been covered in the CSI Communications magazine of February issue.It was coordinated by Dr.Charan Kumari.
  • The NorthCap University, Gurugram is proud to share that six of its students, namely, Abhinav Mathur, Devansh Bhatia, Lakshay Mathur, Mayank Raheja, Ravin and Sachin Kushwaha have been working in tandem with the Cyber-Cell of the Gurugram Police Department. They have been instrumental in solving cases and diligently providing insight to the policemen working with them. A few of them have also set an example for their peers by receiving training and pursuing an internship with the Police Department in Cyber Security and Forensics. These accomplishments have also allowed this team of students to be featured in an article in the prestigious daily, Hindustan Times. The article was published on 13th February 2017 by Leena Dhankar, HT. We encourage all students to continue honing their strengths and keep in touch with teachers, who may be able to provide the adequate opportunity which allows the students to contribute to make a better world.

  • Prof. Karmeshu visited the department on 19th January 2017. All the associated mentees discussed their research progress. The interaction was further followed by lecture on "Information Theory" which was attended by the faculty members.
  • Dr.Latika Singh and Ms.Anuradha attended national employability conclave conducted by aspiring minds on 19th Jan, 2017 at Sheraton hotel ,Saket. Among the gathering there were people from both academia (NIT, GJU, CRUST (murthal), ACM speaker etc)) and industry (Country head wipro).Some 8-10 startup companies CEO/VP were also there. The agenda of conclave was the discussion about the problems and challlenges associated with academia and industry gap so that national employability can be improved.
  • The CSE Department of The NorthCap University, Gurugram has organized a Faculty Development Program from 8th to 14th December 2016 on “Latest Industry Trends and Needs”. The above topic was selected on the idea that the key to success is not just the traditional teaching but it has to be a target oriented teaching in order to keep pace with the everyday changing technology.
  • The Computer Society of India (CSI) Students wing had organized workshops on Game development and Internet of Things (IoT) for the students of B.Tech (CSE) from 12th to 17th December 2016. The students developed very interesting games and also built security systems using IoT. The event had been organized under the supervision of CSI Student Branch Counsellor Dr. A. Charan Kumari.

  • Prof. B Chandra ,Professor, Department of Mathematics ,IIT Delhi delivered a session on 12th December on concepts of machine learning. Machine learning brings together computer science and statistics to harness that predictive power. The lecture ended with the idea that machine learning is a must-have skill for all aspiring data analysts and data scientists. It was coordinated by Ms.Meghna Sharma and Dr.Kavita Khanna.
  • Prof. Ramesh Kumar Agarwal, Professor, School of Computer & Systems Sciences,JNU, Delhi delivered a session on 14th December 2016 on Deep Learning which is a very hot area of Machine Learning Research, with many remarkable recent successes in face recognition, traffic sign recognition, image recognition and data science applications.
  • The transition from Artificial Neural Networks to deep learning, reasons for such transitions and the benefits of this transition were explained in detail. Later the concept of deep learning was presented along with the application and research areas in the field. It was coordinated by Ms.Rita and Dr.Kavita Khanna.

  • Prof. Karmeshu visited the department on 23th December 2016 and delivered a talk on "Insights on Mathematical Modelling" which was attended by all the faculty members. It was coordinated by Ms.Suman Bhatia.
  • A Special Cyber Security Session was organized by CSE & IT department for Cyber Security CSE (BTech, MTech and PhD) students on 12th November 2016. This three hour session was conducted by three industrial experts from PwC Gurgaon: Mr. Manoj Kumar (Senior Consultant-Cyber Security) on “Secure Coding”, Mr. Varun Pathak (Senior Consultant- Cyber Security) on “Network Security” and Mr. Prakhar Kaushik (Consultant- Information Security). They discussed about the different aspects of security like how to make secure software, latest algorithms used for network security etc. They also guided and interacted with CSE-PhD students. It was coordinated by Dr.Supriya Raheja and Dr.Shilpa Mahajan.
  • The CSI Students chapter of NCU has organized competitions in Coding, Watch and Respond, Quiz and IT-Tambola on 3rd November 2016 for the B.Tech students of CSE & IT. The main objective of this event is to motive the students to stay connected with the latest trends and techniques in the field.  All the students participated very enthusiastically. The snapshots of these events were published in the CSI Communications magazine.  The event has been organized by Dr. A. Charan Kumari, CSI Students Branch Counsellor and Dr. Prachi, CSI member.

  • Mr. Mohan Venkataraman and Mr. Upesh from Universal Technical Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. had visited CSE/IT department on 27th Oct 2016. They both had discussed the status of projects which are undertaken by our students and also took their doubts.  Total of 7 teams of CSE/IT students are working on their five different projects.

  • CSE & IT Dept. organized a Guest Lecture on "Cyber Security" on Nov 7th, 2016. Lecture was delivered by Ms. Dhvanik Miglani. She is currently working in EY, Dublin-based Advisory team. She has experience in diverse engagements including cyber maturity assessments, penetration tests, researching emerging threats and the execution of cyber security engagements. She discussed different tools and futuristic opportunities in cyber security with third and final year students. She also shared her experience and knowledge of information security and forensics. This event was organized by Ms. Mehak Khurana.

  • Department of CSE/IT organized a Guest Lecture on “Applications of Graph Theory in Computer Science" by Prof. B. S. Panda, Department of Mathematics, IIT Delhi on Nov 19, 2016.He discussed about Graph Theory, Graph Algorithms, Parallel Computing and Design and Analysis of Algorithms. It was coordinated by Professor Prabha Sharma.
  • The Dept of CSE/IT organised a mock placement test to prepare the students for placement and to provide them guidance so that their technical and aptitude skills get stronger. This test was conducted in collaboration with Solution Bell, a venture of our Alumni Mr Sumit Singla(2007-2011) and he is ready to provide the guidance for placement through this platform.
  • Department of CSE/IT organized a Guest Lecture on "Cloud Computing Career Opportunities" by Mr. Narinder Kamra from vDoIT Technologies.It was coordinated by Ms.Jyoti Sahni.
  • An expert lecture on “Multithreading in Java" by Mr. Ramanjee from Samsung Research Institute was organized on 12th November. He discussed about the importance of multithreading in Java. He explained various applications of multithreading such as producer-consumer problem, reader writer problem and so on. He also pointed out the importance of synchronization in Java.   • Dr. Gulshan Rai (Chief Information Security Officer at PMO) had visited NCU and delivered a special lecture on Cyber Security on 17th November 2016.Dr. Gulshan Rai is working as The First Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Prime Minister Office, India. Earlier to this, he was Director General, CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) and Group Coordinator of E-Security and Cyber Law Division in the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

  • Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an expert lecture entitled “Mobile and IoT: Use-cases and Possibilities” on November 15, 2016 in NCU auditorium. The expert speaker was Mr. Nitendra, Research Manager and Senior Researcher from IBM,Delhi. The speaker started with the introduction of what exactly is IoT as its extensive use, statistical and quantitative analysis. He introduced the basic and most important features of Mobile and IoT. The lecture was attended by 173 B. Tech CSE III Year students and faculty members. The lecture was coordinated by Dr. Vijendra Singh.

  • CISCO Networking academy is delighted to inform that 61 students have successfully completed CISCO certification course in module 1. Certificate distribution ceremony was held on 15 Nov 2016.

  • Dr.Charan Kumari, Ms. Rita, Mr. Sandeep and along with 15 students of second year CSE visited Shakuntalam Shiksha Kendra (school for underprivileged kids) on 12th of November. The main objective of this visit is to encourage the students to contribute to the needs of the society using their engineering skills. The visit is really heart-touching and students got an opportunity to look into the society from a zoom-in view. All the students interacted with the school kids very enthusiastically and started singing and dancing along with the kids. The kids are also highly talented and energetic and exhibited all their skills.

  • Department of CSE & IT conducted a workshop on “Cyber Security Essentials” at Global Institute of Technology & Management on 20th Oct., 2016 for third and final year B.Tech students. The objective of this workshop was to spread awareness about the importance of Cyber Security in our daily lives. Students and faculty of institution really appreciated the workshop. This workshop was organized by Dr. Kavita Khanna and delivered by Dr. Prachi, Dr. Shilpa, Dr. Supriya and Ms. Mehak Khurana.
  • Department of CSE/IT organized a Guest Lecture on “Network Security and Routing Algorithms" by Mr. Ashok Kumar Dhaktode on Oct 26th, 2016. Mr. Ashok Kumar is a Network Manager at Nimbuzz Technologies Pvt. Ltd. A CCIE(R&S) candidate with 14 year of experience has an expertise in Designing, Implementation, optimization and Operations in Networks. He is certified in MCP, CCNA,CCIP, JNCIA and ITILV3 (Foundation).It was coordinated by Ms. Hitesh Yadav and Dr.Shilpa Mahajan.
  • A research lecture entitled “Symmetry Based Automatic Evolution of Patterns: A New Approach” was delivered by Dr. Vijendra Singh on October 22, 2016. The main objective of lecture was to show how new line symmetry based method able to evolves optimal pattern solutions without a priori knowledge of the actual number of patterns. A comparative analysis of results was presented during his lecture. All the CSE faculty members attended the same.
  • Department of CSE & IT organized an expert talk and interactive session on “Project management and IT infrastructure” by Mr Nitish Arora (CSE Alumni, 2004-2008). Nitish is working as unit manager, It infra project program in Metlife Global operations .The session was coordinated by Alumni Cell of CSE/IT.
  • Department of CSE/IT organized a Guest Lecture on "Risk Management" by Ms. Aparajita Sinha who is a Security Analyst at Ernst & Young Global Delivery Services, Gurgaon, India. Her area of interests are Security/Privacy, IT process Operations and Healthcare Program Management, Linux and Network Administration, Telecommunication, Documentation and Technical Writing in risk management. She is a certified Privacy Lead Assessor by Data Security Council of India.It was coordinated by Dr.Yogita and Dr.Latika Singh.
  • A research lecture entitled “Landslide Detection from Satellite images” was delivered by Dr. Akansha Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science” on October 06, 2016. She focused on a semiautomatic approach for landslide detection from remote sensing images and digital terrain information during her lecture.The session was attended by CSE/IT faculty members.
  • The Department of CSE&IT organized an expert talk and interactive session on ‘Basic Organizational Ethics’ by Mr Pranav Bhardwaj (CSE Alumni, 2006-2010) on 6 October 2016. Mr Bhardwaj is currently working as an Instructional Designer and Business Developer at Genpact. He has expertise in Business Analytics and Content Management. During the interactive lecture, Mr Bhardwaj shared his professional journey and struggles with the students. The students were inspired by his words and raised many queries which were aptly answered. The event was coordinated by Ms Jyotsna.
  • Department of CSE/IT organized a Guest Lecture on "Security and Privacy Aware Analytics" by Dr Sameep Mehta who is a Senior Researcher and Manager at IBM Research - India. He received his Ph.D. in Data Mining and Visualization from Ohio State University. His research interests are Data Mining, Text Mining, Machine Learning, Big Data Technologies, Social Data Analytics and Knowledge Graph. He also serves as Adjunct Faculty at IIIT-Delhi in the area of Data Analytics and is an eminent speaker of ACM India. It was coordinated by Ms.Geetika Munjal and Dr.Latika Singh.
  • Department Of CSE/IT, NCU organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Apache Spark” on 10th October 2016.The Guest Speaker was Dr Himanshu Gupta from IBM Research Lab, Gurugram. The Lecture focussed on the basics of Spark, added features as compared to Hadoop, spark core, spark SQL, discussed with practical examples for the same step by step. Apache Spark™ is a fast and general engine for large-scale data processing and can handle big data very efficiently as compared to Hadoop. Faculty, B.Tech(CSE) 5th sem, B.Tech(CSE&IT)7th Sem, M.Tech(CSE) 1st and 2nd year.(Total Strength approximately 55). The feedback of the lecture given by the faculty and students was really good. It was coordinated by Ms.Meghna Sharma and Dr.Latika Singh.
  • CSE & IT department has taken initiative to get tied up with IIT Madras for conducting Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) program for students to bridge the gaps and enhance their all-round development towards employability. In Current Semester Course on Non-Linear Data Structures and Applications has been introduced for second year students where live lectures are being delivered and projected in remote classrooms to all students by IIT Bombay Faculty, Prof. Supratim Biswas. 38 students participated and attended these lectures. Another course on Priority Queues and Trees - Data Structures was introduced for second year students where live lectures were delivered and projected in remote classrooms to all students by Prof G Venkatesh from IIT Madras. 40 students participated and attended these lectures.These Sessions are coordinated by Suman Lata and Mehak Khurana.

Club and Society Activities

  • The Google Students Club conducted Ice breaking session on 12th October 2016 that included introduction of the team members and best introductory slide competition was also held in view to improve their presentation skils. It was driven by Arushi Thakur,Abhishek Barry and Ms.Jyotika Pruthi and was attended by 40 extended team members.
  • CodeStorm v2.0 was conducted on 8th October, 2016. The contest was organised by Team CapCoders (Codechef Student Chapter, NCU). The aim of the event was to promote competitive programming among students in our University. There were 5 problem statements which only accepted code-based solutions (no matter what language you use, except for one question which was restricted to the use of C and C++ only). Total number of Google Form entries were 48, 3 entries were from outside, Total number of active participants: 20, Total code submissions: 313 (Average: 15.65 per user) and Number of distinct users/teams with correct submissions was 14.
  • SOCER group of CSE & IT Dept. is working in the area of cyber security and has taken the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) Membership in April 2016. DSCI was set up in 2008 by NASSCOM and has around 500 members across IT-BPM, BFSI, Security, Telecom, Manufacturing, Energy, PSU’s and Security vendors, among others. DSCI through its Corporate Membership program provides topical, validated/globally acknowledged and action oriented services to its member companies to promote data protection in the various industry verticals and build trustworthiness of Indian companies at the global arena. This includes sending information on various issues to its members on a regular basis in the form of survey reports, study reports, newsletters etc., providing various opportunities for members to learn and showcase their strength to the outside world through participation in conferences, summits, seminars etc.
  • CSE & IT Dept took initiative for FOSS training (Free Source Software Training) by IIT Bombay for students through spoken tutorials software project for 2 nd , 4 th and 6 th semester students in the areas of FOCP, OOPS II, DBMS and Software Engineering. 220 out of 225 enrolled students of 2 nd sem cleared FOCP, 206 out of 210 enrolled students of 4 th sem cleared OOPS II and DBMS, 105 out of 108 enrolled students of 6 th sem cleared Software Engineering. These students have been issued certificates from IIT Bombay. The event was coordinated by Ms. Mehak Khurana and Ms. Garima Sharma.
  • Ms Surbhi Dewan, M.Tech(CSE) student under the guidance of Ms. Sumanlata Gautam has developed an educational android application in Hindi and English language for improving the communication skills of Indian children suffering from cognitive disability like autism, dyslexia, aphasia and specific language impairment. The application has been matured in three different levels depending upon the severity of the child. It was tested with a group of special kids and has obtained excellent positive results.

 

  • Mr Yashasvi and Mr. Sourabh Gupta have developed “NCU-Mcare : Medical HealthCare System” for the medical professionals of NCU under the supervision of Dr.A.Charan Kumari. The main purpose of the system is to computerize the existing manual system and to develop a user-friendly system that can assist the doctors in their tasks including maintenance of Patient records, stock control and Report generation.
  • Dr Vijender Singh has been appointed as an Editorial Board Member in International Journal of Information and Decision Sciences, Inderscience, UK.
  • Mr Yogesh Gupta, a Cyber security expert from Federal govt. of USA visited the SOCCER group working on cybersecurity in the department and discussed about various latest issues and opportunities growing in this domain.
  • With a view to provide internship to the students ,IIIC Cell facilitated the same in which 2 students got selected in Pyramid Cyber Security and Forensic Pvt Ltd. , 2 students got selected in Hughes Systique Software , 2 students got opportunity to work with DRDO and 3 students with Deity.
  • A special lecture was conducted on 28th March 2016 for CSE II Sem batches on the topic 'Importance of Mathematics in Engineering'' by the guest speaker Prof. Karmeshu from JNU, New Delhi. It was coordinated by Mr. Sandeep Singh.
  • Department of CSE/IT successfully conducted Second phase of Pre-Placement Interviews for Third year CSE/IT students on 5th March, 2016. Total 06 Alumni from senior batches, working in reputed software industries like Gartner, Inc., Infosys-Business Technology Consulting, Guavus Network Systems, Tata Consultancy Services Limited and Evolphin Software etc. were invited to conduct the Pre-Placement Interview for 50 students. Students were given the detailed feedback regarding their technical/attitude parameters.  The event was organized successfully jointly by Alumni Cell and Industry Institute Interaction Cell.

 

  • A guest lecture on “Deep Learning” was organized by the department on 11th March 2016 by Prof. R.K Agrawal, Dean, School of Computer & Systems Sciences, JNU, New Delhi. He enlightened an audience of around 50 students and 10 faculty members on the vast applications of deep learning like computer vision, character recognition, automatic speech recognition, natural language processing and bioinformatics. The lecture was organized by Ms. Rita Chhikara.[ CSE2016G021]

 

  • A team including Senior Data scientist, Senior Data Analyst and the Manager HR from Annik Technology Services Pvt Ltd visited the CSE/IT department to conduct the internship interviews in the specialized field of data sciences and analytics for the final year CSE/IT students of Data Analytics group .During the course of interview, they were highly impressed with the knowledge of students in the area of data sciences. Finally they offered job to one of our students, Mr Akshay Nagpal(12CSU022) on a package of 3.5 lac per annum.
  • The department of CSE/IT is pleased to share that collaboration has been formed with Michigan Technological University (MTU), USA for the 3+1+1 program wherein a B.Tech student can complete his fourth year from MTU. He can also complete his post-graduation in one year from there. Teacher training and Academic Research Program is also a part of the collaboration.
  • CSE/IT department organized a session on "Pedagogy Training” for the faculty on 19th march 2016 which was taken up by Dr. Naveen Prakash. In his session he covered the various aspects like importance of vision and mission for any organization was one of them. He also involved faculties in various activities based on case studies. The next session of this training series will be conducted on 2nd April 2016.
  • The department is pleased to share that the In house B.Tech project of Temperature Monitoring under the guidance of Dr. Prachi has been deployed in the UPS Room of the university that helps in monitoring of the temperature.

Students were given the detailed feedback and were counselled regarding their technical/aptitude parameters. The event was organized successfully jointly by Alumni Cell and Industry Institute Interaction Cell along with the support from departmental faculty.

  • To teach students of B. Tech  IT, six semester & M. Tech Computer Science with specialization in cyber security,   the art & science of cryptanalysis of ENIGMA machine which was used in second world war , a movie ‘IMITATION GAME’ was shown to the students on 15th March,  2016 at 12:30 PM  in the auditorium.  The audience commented that it was a fun filled and extremely educational   and enlightening experience. It was well coordinated by Dr. Meena Kumari.
  • Department of CSE/IT successfully conducted first phase of Pre-Placement Interviews for Third year CSE/IT students on 30th Jan, 2016. Total of 07 Alumni from senior batches, working in reputed software industries like Google, Adobe, JP Morgan Chase, Dunnhumby and MDD Medical system were invited to conduct the interviews for 67 students.
  • The department organized a Workshop cum Meet Up session-2 “Scaling with Agile Practices” on 19th Jan 2016.The participants were senior Agile software developers from various software industries, directors and representatives of our industrial partners, faculties and some selected M-Tech students. There were six speakers from the various industries nameky Ms. Suchi Singla(Baffle solutions Technologies),Mr. Ashish Mahajan(FORD),Mr. Rishi Chadha ,Prashant,(Innovation Roots),Mr. Kuljeet  Singh Sharna(Blue Chip) and Mr.Amitabh Mendiratta(Xebia IT Architects Pvt Ltd)
  • Mr Sameer Suneja, Director, Logix Net solutions Pvt Ltd visited the department of CSE and IT along with his team for falling into the collaboration, building up of opportunities for internship and placements. He had a discussion with CCNA team and agreed to sign MOU as well.
  • The CSE/IT Dept. organised a guest lecture on ‘Neourogenic communication disorders’ by Prof. Brooke Hallowell, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, ASHA Fellow on 12 February 2016. The lecture was conducted with the initiative of Dr. HB Singh, Scientist ‘E’, Dept of Science and Technology, Govt of India. The lecture was attended by around 100 faculty members of the University during which Prof. Hallowell enlightened the audience about various speech disorders. [CSE2016G018]

  • Google Students’ Club of The NORTHCAP University, Gurugram had organized its first technical event of this session- ‘Techxium 2016’ in collaboration with DKOP Labs, Noida on 8th February 2016 on the theme of “Code Optimization”. The speaker was Mr.Manu Lauria, B.Tech and M.Tech (IIT Delhi) and currently the Chairman and Director of DKOP Labs, Noida. It was coordinated by Ms.Jyotika Pruthi,Ms.Neha Sahu and Ms.Rita Chikkara.   • Dept of CSE/IT organized a guest lecture on “Steganalysis:Tools and Techniques” on 24th Feb 2016. The talk was given by Dr. Saibal K. Pal, Scientist ‘G’, Scientific Analysis Group, DRDO. Dr. Saibal K. Pal introduced an audience of around 80 students and 8 faculty members to Steganography which is the `science of hiding secret messages in innocuous carrier mediums such as image, audio, video etc. The talk was coordinated by Dr. Meena Kumari and Ms. Rita Chhikara.[CSE 2016G019]

 

 

  • Dept. of CSE & IT has taken initiative to get tied up with the IIT Bombay for Free Open Source Software (FOSS) training through spoken tutorials software project for our students. In the current semester Dept. has introduced FOCP and C for 2nd semester students, OOPS and DBMS for 4th semester students and Software Engineering for 6th semester students to enhance their skill and learn fundamentals. That is how it will help in spreading the IT literacy. This is being coordinated by Ms. Mehak Khurana.
  • Department  is pleased to share that Juliana Mazza Reis, Innovation Licensing Manager, Eurofarma Laboratorios, Sao Paulo, Business Development with her colleagues: Caroline Carpe and Rosa Lbapantoja has visited CSE/IT Department for the software Development Collaboration on 26 Feb 2016. Currently they are studying MBA under International Executive MBA at MDI, Gurugram.  HOD CSE/IT has briefed them about the International collaborations and the consultancy projects developed by CSE/IT students.

 

 

  • CSE/IT department is pleased to share that 26 students have successfully completed CCNA Module 1(Session 2) certification course that took place from 10th Sept- 15 Oct 2015 under the guidance of Ms. Hitesh Yadav and Ms. Shilpa Mahajan and all time support from Dr.Latika Singh, HOD, CSE/IT.

  • CodeChef (global programming community) campus chapter (Advisor: Ms.Shilpa Mahajan) for our university holds a target to improve the coding skills of NCU students. Under this chapter, CapeCoders conducted first an online coding contest (Codestorm) on 15 January 2016. It was a completely internet-based contest in which 358 codes were submitted thereby showing their passion towards programming.
