Hi-tech CRDI Research Engine facility inaugurated at The NorthCap University
The NorthCap University inaugurated a hi-tech ‘Single Cylinder CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection) Diesel Research Engine Test Rig’ facility to boost research infrastructure at The NorthCap University (NCU) Gurugram. The facility set up in the IC Engines Lab, Department of Mechanical Engineering has been setup in collaboration with Medhaavi Centre for Automotive Research, Hoshiarpur and NIRA Automotive Controls AB, Sweden. TheCRDI Research Engine Facility is the 12ththat has been set up in India and The NorthCap University is the 2nduniversity that has this facility in India. The CRDI Research Engine facility, set up with an approximate cost of Rs 16 lakhs, was inaugurated by Prof. Prem Vrat, Pro-Chancellor, NCU on 4 September 2017.
Speaking at the occasion Mr Yogesk Kalia, Founder & CTO, Medhaavi Centre for Automotive Research said, “Electronics has made automobiles more sustainable and this trend is only going to increase in the coming years. Our aim is to create a knowledge pool of Automotive Engineers with knowledge of latest automotive technologies which is the need of the hour and CRDi is one of the latest technologies in this domain.” The set-up has a single cylinder Mahindra & Mahindra CRDI Engine controlled by Open Electronic Control unit developed by Nira Control AB, Sweden to reduce pollution. Nira Control AB develops and delivers advanced electronic control units to customers that design and produce vehicles and other products that are used in harsh environments. With state of the art technology platforms, Nira Control AB is developing unique electronic systems that are improving customers’ operations and products. Nira Electronic Control System has been used in the CRDI research engine for advanced electronic control and analysis.
The CRDI facility will help Mechanical Engineering students through a series of experimentations. It will help in boosting good quality research projects and prove to be a potential source for enhancing Consultancy projects at NCU. The CRDI Research Engine facility has upgraded IC Engines labs at NCU and made it industry ready. Dr Rohit Singh Lather, Associate Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering facilitated the set- up oftheCRDI facility at NCU.
