Professor of Eminence
and Chief Mentor

An outstanding academic, Prof. Prem Vrat, is the Pro-Chancellor; Professor of Eminence and Chief Mentor at The NorthCap University, Gurugram. Just prior to joining NCU as the Vice-Chancellor, in September 2011, he was Professor of Eminence at the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram. Prof. Vrat was Founder-Director, IIT Roorkee; Vice-Chancellor, U.P. Technical University, Lucknow; Professor, Dean, Dy. Director and Director-in-charge, IIT Delhi; Professor and Division Chairman of Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. He is an Honorary Professor at IIT Delhi and Distinguished Adjunct Professor at AIT, Bangkok.

Prof. Prem Vrat was an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Engineering Production, University of Birmingham (U.K.) and as an International Visiting Fellow at University of Western Sydney, Australia.  He has extensive experience of more than 48 years in teaching, research, management development and consultancy.

He has guided 39 PhD theses, 118 M.Tech and 65 B.Tech major projects on Industrial Application of Systems Approach and Management Science.  He has published more than 455 research papers in reputed journals and proceedings of international and national conferences.  His research papers have received more than 4950 citations with g-index of 69 and maximum citation of a paper as 807. He has authored/co-authored seven books and completed five sponsored projects and 33 consultancy assignments. His book, ‘Productivity Management: A System Approach’ received awards from DMA as well as ISTD. Springer has published his book, ‘Materials Management: An Integrated Systems Approach’ under Springer Text Books in Business and Economics and is available both in print and e-book version, worldwide. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Productivity Sciences, ISTE and IIIE. Recipient of multiple awards and recognitions, Professor Vrat was conferred Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) by Bundelkhand University; Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Kharagpur; Distinguished Service Award by IIT Delhi; Outstanding Contribution Award for National Development by IIT Delhi Alumni Association; Uttaranchal Ratan Award, Lillian Gilbreth Award; 14 Best Paper medals and prizes. Prof. Prem Vrat was honoured with the National Systems Gold Medal by the Systems Society of India (SSI), the highest award conferred by the Society on distinguished scientists and Honorary Member of IIIE, the highest recognition by IIIE. SAE India Foundation bestowed on him the ‘Guru’ award for his outstanding contributions. He was conferred the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ at the 18th Annual International Conference of the Society of Operations Management at IIT Roorkee in December 2014. 

He has been on the Board of Governors of many technical institutions and universities, on the editorial boards of many Indian and foreign journals. He was Chairman (NWRC), AICTE, Programme Implementation Committee (PIC) of  National Project on Earthquake Engineering Education (NPEEE); Chairman, Working Group on HRD in IT, Department  of IT, Government of India; Member of Adhoc Task Force (ATF) appointed by the Cabinet Secretariat; Independent Director on the Board of Air India; Member (MEAC) of National Board of Accreditation; Member, Technology Forum of INAE; Member, Advisory Group of Experts for Technology Upgradation in Indian Railways – Make in India and Governor Chancellor in Executive Council Committee of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad.

Brig. SK Sharma (Retd.) is the Pro Vice-Chancellor of The NorthCap University and a Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. He superannuated as the Registrar of the University in August 2014. He has 40 years of experience in architecture, urban planning and engineering in the Indian Army, Defence Research and Development Organization, real estate, project management, and teaching. He retired as Chief Engineer Designs at the apex level of the Corps of Engineers at Army HQ, Delhi.

 

His major assignments include Project Head of an 85-acre township project, and Hotel Radisson, Manesar, both with Silver Glades Group; Project Coordinator of the Defence Research and Development Organization building in Lutyens Delhi, a six-storeyed, centrally air-conditioned building, built in harmony with the heritage buildings of Rashtrapati Bhavan and South Block. His technical assignments include, Head of Continuous Education Programme (CEP) for architects, planners and engineers of the armed forces, and management of 5000 technical personnel as Chief Engineer. He prepared a Quality Assurance Plan for the built environment for the use of the Military Engineer Services for all major building projects of the defence services. He has undertaken the planning, design and execution of township projects in the Northeast, in difficult and often hostile conditions, to include housing, community facilities and infrastructure. He planned and executed aviation facilities on the northern borders, with a helirunway, its hangarage, and aviation services. Brig. Sharma was HoD, Architecture Wing, on a teaching assignment at the College of Military Engineering, Pune. He planned the Soldiers' Facilities Complex in Pokhara, Nepal, as a recruitment centre, pension facility and living complex for Gorkha soldiers. He was on the design team of a multistoreyed Intelligence HQ, including auditorium and basements for RAW at New Delhi, and the Indian Field Gun factory, Kanpur.

Brig. Sharma's membership of professional societies includes Fellow of Indian Institute of Architects, Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), and Fellow of Indian Institute of Town Planners. Some of his technical publications have been on Environment, Shelters and Networks, National Housing Policy, Thermal Comfort Designs, Performance of Engineered Construction at Bhuj during the earthquake - 2000, IT and the Built Environment, and New Trends in Construction. He has served on the National Panel for Revision of the National Building Code, BIS – 2003. He is a veteran of the 1971 operations in Bangladesh.

Col. Bikram Mohanty (Retd), Registrar, The NorthCap University is a Post Graduate in HR and a Diploma in Information Technology and has served in the Indian Army for over 30 years. During his service, besides serving in a number of field areas, he actively took part in a number of operations against the terrorists in Kashmir and the ULFA in the North Eastern sector. He commanded one of the highly decorated Cavalry regiments during “OPERATION VIJAY”. As Head of Defence Security in Mumbai, he managed over 7000 troops, and was responsible to safeguard and protect some of the most sensitive and high value strategic assets. He handled recruitment of the eligible youth to the Army in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu & Gujarat. As the Station Commander of a military cantonment he coordinated and helped the State Administration of Tamilnadu by providing military assistance by planning for rescue and rehabilitation of personnel affected by tsunami in 2004.

After leaving the Army, he did a Business Management Course from IIM Indore and then joined the corporate world as GM in HR & Admin in a Pharmaceutical Company in Mumbai. Subsequently he moved to Gurugram as GM in HR in an IT Company. He look over as our first Controller of Examinations in April 2010 and has been appointed as the second Registrar of The NorthCap University on 15th August 2014.

Wg Cdr Manohar Vasudev (Retd). An MSc (Hons) in Biophysics and MBA in Marketing & HR, Wing Commander Manohar Vasudev was commissioned in the Indian Air Force in the Logistics branch in 1983 standing first in the order of merit in his course and receiving the Chief of Air Staff Medal. He has served the Air Force for 21 years with distinction before taking pre-mature retirement in 2004. He has served in various Air Force Units as Senior Logistics Officer, Commanding Officer and Chief Instructor-Logistics in Air Force Administrative College, Coimbatore. He has undergone several professional courses including Materials Management, Import & Export of cargo through air & sea and handling of fuels & Explosives. He has been commended twice for meritorious service in the IAF by the Chief of Air Staff and AOC-in-C, HQ Western Air Command. A Supply Chain Management professional, he has served in the corporate sector in NCR as Senior General Manager- Supply Chain and Purchase for 9 years before joining The NorthCap University in 2013.

Dy Manager HR
Ms Deepika Deswal is an alumnus of our University, having done her BE (Hons) in Computer Science in 2007. She completed her PGDM from SRCC, Delhi University in 2010 and worked as a Software Engineer for 10 months with Sapient Technologies, Gurugram before joining us. She is looking after the HR functions of the University since Aug 2010. Her major contribution is in the field of employees recruitment, orientation and facilitation, performance management process, database management and other areas.
